TownL- Application iled March 1,`
certain new and useful Improvements in Towel-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in towel racks, and has for its objects the provision of anV improved construction of this character arranged and adapted topermit Y of the suitable use of ltowels Lbut prevent their unauthorized removal Aorv misuse, which is of simple construction, capable of economical manufacture ande'fficient in use.
Other obj'ectswill appear hereinafter.
The invention 'consists in the combinations and arrangements of 'partsvhereinafterdescribed and claimed; Y
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming apart of this specification, andv in which,
Figure 1, is a front face view of a towel rackembodying the'invention,
Fig. 2, a side viewof the same,
Fig. 3, a detail view illustrating the form of gromet employed in the towels,
Fig. 4;, a face view of a slightly modified form of construction, v
Fig. 5, a side vie'wof the same,
Fig. 6, a detail viewof the form ofl gromet employed inthe towels used onthe construction shown in Figs. 4 andj5,vandy Fig. 7, a smalldetail"View'illustrating-aV modified form of towel guide member.
The form of construction illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 comprises asuitable support 8 in the form of a wall board adapted to be secured tov a wall or the like, and equipped with an upper lock 9 and a lower locking socket 10, as indicated, adapted to detachably secure the ends of a substantially U- shaped guide member thereto'. The guide member consists of a metallic strip bent into substantially U-form and having its upper portion 11 detachably secured in the lock member 9 and extending outwardly and substantially horizontally therefrom to constitute a suitable .support for suspending the clean towels 12 thereon. The guide member extends thence downwardlyv substantially vertically to form a vertical guide portion 13,l and thence n- CHIcAeo, ILLINOIS, AssIGNon- 'ro JACQUES RoUssO, or

wardly and downwardlyjto form-a supporting portion 14 to support Ythe soiled towels 15 suspended thereon, as shown. At the juncture between thel portions-'11 and 13 of 'said guide mem-ber, said guide member 1s provided with a one-half twistY 16, and the. towels 12 are provided with gromets 17 having oblong openings 18 ytherein adapted to slide upon the guid'e'member." By this arrangement it willi be Vobserved that a supplyvv of clean towels 12 may be readily suspended on the f guide member lportion 11 and removed when desired for use. In removing the towel, the same is drawn outwardly until the gromet therein strikesl the twisted por-y tion 16, whereupon the gromet vand preferably the towels also are `rotated aroundl the.
Tide member through an angle of substantially 180 degrees Vas the towel moves along thefguide member, whereupon the same is ready for use'an'd can-be usedv freely in the usual manner. After use, the soiled towel is simply released and the same vfalls to the lower portion of the guide member portion 13 of its own Weight, and may-be then pushed back along the portionlll to the position indicated. y
The formi of construction illustratedfin Figs. '11, `-5 and Gris identicalfwith that described, except fora slightly different ar-- rangement Vof the twist inthe guide'bar. In
this form of theconstruction the guide bar is given a' quarter twist 18 at the router en'd of the portion 11,"andanother quarter twist 19 at the lower portion of the guidev niem-A ber portion 13., By this' arrangement, enoughof a twist is provided at. theipoint 1 8 to prevent too easy disarrangement of the clean towels from their position'on the guide member portion r11, andthe'towe'ls are again properly positioned by the twist 19 l for free hanging onthe guide member portion 14.
In the form of construction illustrated in Fig. 7 a guide rod 2O is employed instead l of the guide bar as previously described, and this guide rod is provided with a transverse pin 21 at the outer end of the upperl horizontal portion thereof to prevent the too easy removal of the clean towels. The gromet 17 is provided with a circular central perforation to slide freely on the rod 20,
and with vertical extensions 22 4to pass over the pin 21, when the towel or the gromet is rotated or revolved through an angle of substantially ninety degrees.. Otherwise, the construction and operation is identical with that disclosed in Figs. l, 2 and 3.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred forms of construction for carrying my invention into effect, these are capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of the construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations g :and modiications as come within the scope of `the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A towel rack comprising a towel guide member adapted y to hold towels provided with securing members sliding on said guide member; and means on said guide member and said securing members compellngrelative rotatlonfof said securing members and said gulde member during movement or said securing members along said guide mem-V ber, substantially as described.
2. A-towel rack comprising a towel guide member oblong in cross section and twisted at Yone point and adapted to hold towels provided with securing members having oblong openings therein to slide'on said guide member, substantially asdescribed.
3. A towel rack comprising a towel guide member twisted at one point and adapted to hold towels provided with securing members having openings therein to slide `on said guidel member, substantially as described.
4. A towel rack comprising a towel guide vstrip having a substantially horizontally eX- i tending portion and a twisted portion adjacent the outer end of said horizontally ex- Y tending portion and adapted tol hold towels suspended on said horizontally Yextending I portion having securing members provided with openings sliding on said strip, substantially as described.
5,. A towel rack comprising a support; av
towel guide member consisting of a strip of metal bent into substantially U-form and having its ends detachably secured to said support, the upper limb of said guide member extending outwardly substantially horizontally from said support and having Va twist therein at thefouter end of said horizontally extending portion, said strip eX- tending 'thence' downwardly substantially vertically and thence inwardly to said support and adapted to hold towels having gromets therein suspended on the horizontal portion of said'strip, saidgromets having oblong openings sliding on said strip, substantially as described.
6. A towel rack comprisingV a support; a towel guide member consisting of a strip of metal bent into substantially U form and having its ends detachablysecured to said.
support, the upper limb of said guide member extending outwardly substantially horizontally from said support, thence downwardly substantially vertically and thence inwardly to said support, there being a twist*A wardly substantially vertically, and thenceV inwardly to said support, there being a twist Y in said strip at both the junctures of the upper and lower limbs with said vertical portion and adapted to hold towels having gromets therein suspended on the horizontal portion of said strip, saidgromet'sl having oblong openings sliding on said strip, substantially as described. Y
In testimonywhereof I have signedv'my lname to this speciiicationin the' presence of two subscribing witnesses.
