In the art to which the invention relates various forms of folding'garm'ent hangers'have been proposed in which the hanger is linade to fold to reduce it to a more compact form for storage or like purposes. Y

The present invention contemplates improvements in hangers of this character by provision of a device capable of folding in a manner to form a roll that may be contained in a relatively small space.

One of the objects of the invention is accordingly to provide a garment hanger adapted to be folded into a, relatively small space.

A further object of the invention is to provide a hanger of this character that While capable of folding or rolling into a relatively small space, yet provides a strong support for garments to be hung on it.

A still further object of the invention is to provide in a garment hanger brace means for the hanger for use where extra strength may be required. I

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved hook for the hanger, including cushioning means for the hook.

Other features and advantages oi the invention will become apparent by reference to the accompanying description taken-in conjunction with the drawings wherein like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the vseveral views and wherein: f

Having reference to the drawings the hanger body I8 is made up of a series of connected links interlocked in a, manner to give mutual support in one direction and to fold or roll in the other.

Each link of the hanger is made up of a, piece of material bent to provide converging leg portions 2 and 3 with connecting section I, the legs terminating at the ends in hooks 4. The hooks on the legs of each link are engageable with the connecting section of the next b ut one link in a series solaims. (01.223-89) and the legs of each link bear against theconnecting portion of the link intervening between the hooks and connecting portion. This arrangement will be more readily apparent by reference to Figure 4. f

To form the body of the 4hanger two sets of connected links I6 and I1 are preferably used, with one set reversed in relation tothe other.' This leaves a connecting section I of each set of links outward.

The two sets of links interlock at the center, this being illustrated in detail in Figure 5 in which y the inner links on each set cross to engage the connecting section I of the next but one link of the opposing set, the end hooks being indicated by the numeral 9, of Figure 5, one set of the legs of an end link being positioned between the legs of the opposing link of thecpposite set, the hooks 9 being the hooks o-f the legs that cross.

For suspension of the connected sets of links a hanging bracket is provided comprising a pair of l hook members 8 engaging the hooked ends of links and in turn engaged by a lower horizontal portion l0 of a triangle II. The triangle has a suspension hook consisting of a shank portion I2 with hook member I3. On the shank I2 are stops I4 spaced apart one above and one below the connection with the triangle, this connection being obtained by provision of a suitable opening in the upper angle of the triangle in which the shank I2 is freely slidable. .On the shank I 2 is a spring l5 between the lower stop I4 and the top of the triangle. v

For bracing the body of the hanger Where extra weight is to be put on it a brace section I9 is provided, separately illustrated in Figure 3. In this the links at each end are engaged by hooks each providing a shank 5 with hook portion 6 engaging a connection I of a link and a further hook l for engagement of a, connecting portion of a link in the body of the hanger, the brace being disposed to resist downward pressure on the body of the hanger as when a garment is carried on the hanger.

The links for theV hanger are made of steel, necessarily sulliciently strong so as not to bend or give under weight of the garment carried by the hanger.

In the use of the hanger the parts are assembled as illustrated in Figure 1, with or without the brace section. When folded for putting away .out of use the sets of links forming the body of the hanger may be rolled, as for example'in Figure 1 the rolling of the body would be up, this being the direction in which the links fold. Similarly the brace section may be rolled, and the Whole assembly when so rolled may be put in a comparatively small space.

While I have herein disclosed a preferred einm bodiment of my garment hanger, it is obvious that changes may be made in the formation of parts Within the spirit Iand scope of they invent-ion as dened in the appended claims, and such changes would be considered as a part of the invention as herein disclosed.

What I claim and Wish to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a garment hanger, a body portion over which the garment is to placed, said :body portion comprising a series of connected links, eachY ofl said links consisting of a single piece of material bent to provide a center portion and opposing converging legs, said legs terminating in hooks,

said links being connected With the hooks of each i link engaging the center portion of the neXt but one linkin the series. Y

2. .AY garment hangercomprisinga body on` which the garment is to be hung, a suspension hook, means attaching said hook to the body, and

a brace for the body, said brace including hooks detachably engageablewith the body, and said body and brace being each formed of a series of` links, each of said linkscomprising a single piece nocted links, the one set being reversed in relation to the other andthe inner terminating hooks on each set Jengaged with the hook members of the suspension hook.'
