IMPROVEMENT IN SHEEP-HOLDERS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL TUCKER, of Wabash City, in the county of Wabash and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sheep-Holder, ot' which the following is a specification: y

' The object of this invention is to provide convenient and eectual means for holding sheep while they are being sheared; and it consists in a frame or holder attached to the table or bench, so constructed that the legs of the sheep are secured by clamp-bars while the sheep lies upon the table on its side, the construction and arrangement of parts being as hereinafter more fully described.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section ot' the holder attached to the table. Fig. 2 is a top view of the holder.

A represents a table, bench, or plank, upon which the sheep is laid and to which my sheepholder is attached. B is a bar or bed-piece set on edge, to the ends of which are attached the head-pieces C C, having foot-pins D D, by means of which the holder is attached to the table, as seen in Fig. 1. E E represent upright pieces attached to the sides of the bar B, and extending, like the heads C, above the bar, and forming jaws, as seen in Fig. 2. F F

are clamps pivoted to the pieces E E. Gr Gr are springs by which the clamps F are raised. H H are recesses or gains out in the top of the holder-bar B.

In using the holder the sheep is laid on the table A, and his feet are confined in the recesses H H by bringing around the clamp-bars F F and fastening them to the head-pieces, as seen in Fig. 1. This fastening is done by means of the springs I I andpins J J, or by either mode, as may be deemed necessary.

The advantage of my invention is that the sheep, when confined in this m'anner,is powerless to move, and the operation of `shearing is performed without interruption, and, consequently, with dispatch.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An apparatus for holding sheep when being sheared, consisting of the .bed-bar B, headpieces C C, uprights E E, clamps F F, and recesses or gains H H, substantially as set forth.

2. The springs G G, fastening-wires I I, and pins J J, in combination with the bed-bar B and clamps F F, as and for the purposes described.
