FREDERIC S. COOLIDGE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,107, dated January 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ERASTUS S. FRENCH, of Westminster, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Clothes- Driers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon..
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a vertical section of my invention. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
My invention has relation to folding clothesdriers; and consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the mutually-supported arms, as and for the purpose hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents the side pieces to which the clothes-frames are pivoted. The lower frames, composed of the legs B and rounds C, support the rack, the legs B being provided with short pins, which enter holes in the pieces A from the outside and allow the lower frames to be spread apart or brought together. The upper part of the rack contains five frames, the center one, F, of which is rigidly secured in a vertical position to and between the side pieces A. The other frames are pivoted outside the center frame, and thereby adapted to be spread out in the radial order shown in Fig. 1, or folded up in the parallel order shown in Fig. 2. To provide for this radial adjustment and to enable said frames to stand in their proper positions the lower parts of the center arms a are beveled from both sides, and the lower parts of the arms a of the adjacent frames beveled from the outer to the inner edges, as shown. By
this means the frames D will lie in horizontal positions, while the frames E assume an illclination of about fortyfive degrees. The rounds d of the frames D pass through the pieces A, and serve as stops to the legs B, when said legs are spread apart.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The clothes-rack having the side pieces A, pivoted supports B, rigid frame F with double-beveled ends, pivoted frames E with single-beveled ends, and the pivoted outer frames D, all arranged substantially as specified.
2. In a clothes-rack having the pivoted supports B, side pieces A, and pivoted frames D E, the rounds (I projecting outside the pieces A and serving as stops to the supports B, sub stantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above 1 have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
