CLOTHES SPRINKLER.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 18. m1.

WITNESSES INVENTOH I ATTORNEY? UNITED STATES PATIENT ioF icE.
ROLAND A. BEATTY,.0F NEW YORK, 1:. Y.
CLOTHES-SPRINKLER.
- Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patented Augrlfl', 1920- Application filed July is 1917. Serial No. 181,386.
To all whom it may 0077.06Mt-l Be it known that I, ROLAND A. BEATTY, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Bronx, 1n the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes the nozzle of which is so' formed that a straight spray will be produced, and which is especially designed for use in sprinkling with hot water. 7
Another object is to provide a device of this character which may be readily assembled and disassembled and the parts of which may be renewed when worn or broken.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in'the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a sprinkler constructed in accordance with this invention, and
Fig. 2 is a central vertical section thereof. In the embodiment illustrated, a hollow spherical water container 1 is shown composed of a metal section 2' preferably of aluminum and a rubber section 3 detachably connected as shown at 4:, the metal semispherical member 2 having a peripheral groove around its free edge formed by,
rolling said edge and in which is received the cooperating edge of the rubber semispherical member 3. The metal member 2 is provided at its summit with a socket or nipple 5 internally threaded to receive the threaded stem 6 of the sprinkler nozzle 7 I This nozzle 7 is made semi-spherical in form and has a perforated closure 8 over the flat open portion thereof, the stem 6 being formed at its apex as is shown clearly in Fig. 2. This closure 8 which is here shown in the form of a cap is provided with a plu rality of perforations 9.
Arranged in the apex of the rubber portlon 3 1s a valve 10 mounted in a suitable seat 11 secured in an opening formed in said rubber hemisphere 3, said seat having an annular groove 12 formed therein to receive the edges of the opening in the bulb or semi-sphericahmember 3.
NVhen it is desired to fill this container 1 with water the nozzle 7 isremoved and after depressing the rubber member v3 said memher is released and thereby draws water into'the bulb in a manner Well understood,
the valve 10 being an inwardly opening flap valve, and the aperture in the member 11 being relatively large permits the fluid to pass 7 therethrough more quickly than through the perforations of the sprinkler head.
By constructingthe spherical container 1 partly of metal a more durable article is.
provided.
From the foregoing description, takenin connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the "method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desireto have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the claimed invention.
In a sprinkling device including a semispherical cup member of rigid'material, a sprinkler head attached thereto, a second semi-spherical cup member of rubber connected to the first to form a sphere, the rubber member having an opening, a valve casing in the form of a sleeve of rigid material, a pair of annular flanges on the outer surface in spaced relation said, flanges receiving the edges defining the opening when the sleeve is inserted therein, an annular flange upon the inner surface of the sleeve and a disk pivotally mounted within the sleeve and bearing against the last mentioned flange to form a closure.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
