Description

C. H. COLLINS.
SPRAY NOZZLE.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 9.1919.
Patented June 28, 1921'.
INVENTOR. 6175/55. (011 //V ATTORNE UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLYDE R. COLLINS, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CENTRAL SPECIALTY COMPANY, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, A. CORPORA- TION OF CALIFORNIA.
SPRAY-NOZZLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 28, 1921.
Application filed June 9, 1919. Serial No. 302,982.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLYDE R. COLLINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Spray-Nozzles, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to make a spray nozzle for showers, shampoos, and the like, and my invention consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
Figure l is a view in elevation showing my spray nozzle mounted as a shower, parts bein broken away and shown in section.
ig. 2 is an elevation showing the nozzle mounted upon a hose as to be used in shampooing, parts being broken away and shown in section.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged central section of the nozzle and on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line 4-4: of Fig. 3 and looking downwardly as indicated by the arrows.
Referring to Figs. 3 and 4:, the details of the nozzle 1 are as follows:
The cap 2 has internal screw threads 3, and tangential openings 1 and 5 at the bottom of the chamber 6 and just above the head 7 of the cap. The openings 1 and 5 are diametrically opposite each other and arran ed in a plane at right angles to the axis of the cap.
The casing 8 is spun or stamped from sheet metal and has a neck 9 fitting tightly around the cap 2 and solder 10 is applied to make a tight joint. The casing 8 flares outwardly from the cap 2 and has a rim 11 around its large end. The face plate 12 is pressed or spun from sheet metal and has a central opening 13. A ring 1 1 is placed against the inner face of the plate 12 around the opening 13 and has a neck 15 extending through the opening and the ring is soldered in place. The late 12 has a curved outer edge 16 which is placed in the rim 11, and then the edge 17 of the rim 11 is spun over and around the curved outer edge 16 to hold the plate 12 securely in place.
The nozzle or head thus constructed may be secured upon the water supply pipe 18 to produce a shower, and when it is desired to use the nozzle for shampooing a hose nipple is screwed into the cap 2 and a hose 20 is connected to the hose nipple.
When water is turned on to the pipe 18 or the hose 20 the water will flow with considerable force through the tangential openings 4 and 5 into the chamber 21, and the water will strike the curved inner faces of the casing 8 and whirl around in the chamber 21 and ultimately issue through the passage 22 in the ring 14 as a spray. The spray will spread as it issues from the opening 22 more 1 or less according to the thickness of the ring 14 and the pressure of the water.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. A spray nozzle comprising an internally screw threaded cap having diametrically ar ranged tangential openings that are disposed in a plane at right angles to the itXlS'Of the cap, a casing having a neck fitting the cap and the body of the casing flaring outwardly from the cap, a rim formed around the large end of the casing, a face plate fitting in the rim and having a central opening, and a ring secured against the inner face of the face plate around the central opening.
2. A spray nozzle comprising an internally threaded annular member having one end closedby a fiat plate, there being diametrically a r r a n g e d openings f o r m e d through the wall of said member immediately adjacent to said fiat plate, said openings disposed in a plane at right angles to the axis of said member and being tangentially arranged relative to the inner surface of the said member, a casing secured to said annular member and flaring outwardly therefrom to provide a relatively large annular chamber, a face plate fitted to the rim of said casing, and occupying a plane parallel with the plate that closes the end of the internally threaded member, and said face
