WILLIAM F. BROWN, OF MAQUOKETA, IOWA.
LAWNeSPRINKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 608,646, dated .August 9, 1898. Application tiled February Z, 1898. Serial No. 668,832. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. BROWN, a citizen ofthe United States, residingat Maquoketa, in the county of Jackson-and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lawn-Sprinklers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to Which it ap pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in lawn-sprinklers 5 and the object is to simplify the construction and provide an inexpensive, eflicient, land durable device of this kind.
To these ends the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the device, as Will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The accompanying drawings show my invention in the best form noW known to me; but many changes in the details might be made within the skill of a good mechanic Without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the claims at the end of this specification.
The same reference-numerals indicate the same parts of the invention in both views.
Figure 1 is a vertical elevation, partly in section, of my improved lawn-sprinkler. Fig.' 2 is another form of sprinkler-cap.
1 denotes the circular base, formed With a vertical axially-threaded orifice 2 to receive the correspondingly-threaded end 3 of the standard 4, removably secured therein. The upper end of the standard a is turned horizontally to form the right-angular Vgooseneck 5, which terminates in a horizontal sleeve or collar (3.
7 denotes the sprinkler-head, which re sembles the inverted frustum of a cone, its lower end terminating in a cylindrical tube 8, formed with an annular Ilan ge 9 over which is mounted the female coupling 10, which in turn`receives the male coupling 12, attached to the iieXible hose-pipe 13. The tube 8 has a bearing in the collar 6, which forms the support for the sprinkler-head and hose-pipe. The upper end of the sprinkler-head 7 is formed with an internally-threaded collar 14, Which receives the externally-threaded flange 15 of the foraminous hemispherical cap 16, Which converts the solid column of Water into a fine spray. Y
In Fig. 2 the cap is conical in form, and at its apex is horizontally mounted the fan 17, the inclined blades of which are rotated by the Water,Which in turn is equally distributed over the area of which the sprinkler forms the center.
I-Iaving thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s
1. The combination with the vertical standard 4t formed With the horizontal collar G, of the sprinkler-head 7 formed With the tube 8 and the female coupling 10 the male coupling 12, the hose-pipe 13 and the foraminous cap 16, substantially as shown and described.
2. A lawn-sprinkler comprising the stand ard et formed With the horizontal collar G in combination with the sprinkler-head 7 provided With the threaded flange lat, the removable foraminous cap 1G and the fan 17, and the tube 8 mounted in the collar 6, the female coupling 10 mounted on the lower end of said tube 8 and the male coupling 12, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing With nesses.
WILLIAM F. BROWN. l/Vitnesscs:
JOHN II. CRANE, v W. P. DUNLAP.
