UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
JOHN Q. C. SEARLE, OF TOPEKA, KANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-LEGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,012, dated January 21, 1873. k
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN Q. 0. SEARLE, of Topeka, county of Shawnee, State of Kansas, have invented a Foot Attachment for Stoves, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide a secure and simple attachment for the feet of stoves, and a support and protector for the bottom plates of the latter when the feet are detached.
This object I attain in the following manner: Each stove-foot A, Figs. 1 and 2, has, at its, upper end, a circular enlargement, B, adapted to the exterior of a circular projection, D; and-to the interior of an annular projection, E, on the under side of the bottom plate F of the stove, and on the inner side of the enlargement B of the stove-foot, are lugs, h, with spaces between them for the admission of lugs i on the exterior of the projection D, the lugs z, when the foot is partially turned, extending beneath the lugs h, and thus securely locking the said foot to the projection of the (See Fig. 2.) When the feet are detached from the stove the projections D of the bottom plate, serving as supports, protect the molding j at the edge of the same, the said molding being frequently broken in transporting stoves provided with the ordinary attachments. This is especially the case when the stove is tilted in placing it upon a truck. By preference both projectionsD and E are cast in one piece with the bottom plate, as
shown; but either or both of the said projections may be cast separately, and may be riveted or otherwise secured to the bottom plate. The annular projection E might, in some.instances, be dispensed with.
In the modification of my invention illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, the arrangement of the fastening-lugs is reversed, the lugs It of the foot being on the exterior instead of on the interior of the circular enlargement B, and the lugs 1' being transferred from the exterior of the projection D to the interior of the projection E, which is formed in three sections instead of one, in order to permit the passage of the lugs h.
I claim- 1. A foot attachment for stoves in which a circular projection or projections on the under side of the plate, a circular enlargement at the upper end of the foot, and lugs upon both the said projection and enlargement, are combined, substantially as herein described.
2. A circular projection, D, on the under side of the bottom plate of a stove, for the twofold purpose specified.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specificationin the presence of two subscribing witnesses. 7
JOHN Q. G. SEARLE.
