To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN BORYK, a citizen of Russia, residing at Ansonia, county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Noisy Toys, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object to provide a toy capable of producing noise by the impact of a plurality of hammer-like heads, one after the other, upon an equivalent number of resonant plates secured in a single, manually operable handle.

A further object is to provide a toy of the class described capable of making a noise of varying cadence, according to the manner in which it is operated, the toy being essentially simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and easy to operate.

These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a noisy toy made in accordance with the invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 designates a round stem to be manually operated, formed with a square body portion 11, in which are

longitudinal recesses

12 and 13, crossing each other at right angles and adapted to receive relatively

thin plates

14 and 15 suiting the recesses, these plates being preferably made of thin light wood. and extending out equally from the squared body 11.

14 and 15 are disks 16, held in position by wedges 17 passing through other recesses formed in the squared body so as to hold the structure firmly and intimately together.

Pivoted on the pins 18, extending through the disk, are elongated rectangular bars 19, these bars filling the space between the disks and engaged with one of their lateral surfaces are lever arms 20, carrying at their outer ends enlarged heads 21, the same extending outward coincident with the ends of Specification of Letters Patent.

14 and 15 and which, due to their engagement on the pins 18, are free to move between adjacent plates, making contact therewith, and producing a noise in extent or magnitude relative 'to the velocity at which the handle stem 10 isrotated.

The device may be operated by rolling the handle 10 between the palms of the operators hands, causing the same to whirl rapidly or the handle may be moved in a gymtory manner so as to cause the heads 21 to make alternate contact with the

14 and 15 as may be preferred.

It is further possible that by properly manipulating the handle 10 to maintain a certain cadence or rhythm, in the manner of a rattle, forming in effect a variation of toy appreciated by boys and toy makers in gen eral.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a toy of the class described, the combination with a handle adapted to be manually operated and a rectangular body extending therefrom, said body having cross recesses therethrough, of plates secured in the recesses extending at right angles. means for clamping said plates in fixed relation, and hammer heads pivotally engaged with said plate clamping means adapted to make con tact upon opposite sides of adjacent plates.

2. In a toy of the class described, the combination with a handle adapted for manual operation, a square shank extending therefrom, a pair of plates crossing transversely through said shank, said plates acting as sounding boards, disks fixedly engaged with said shank upon the inner and outer edges of said plates, pins passing through said disks, rectangular bars extending between said disks into which said pins enter, arms engaged centrally upon the edge of said bars, and weight heads carried at the ends of said arms, said heads being adapted to make contact between adjacent plates when said handle is operated.

3. In a toy of the class described, the combination with a handle, and a body formed therewith, of a pair of plates rigidly secured at right angles in said body, disks engaged with said body at each edge of said plates, bars pivoted between each plate in said disks,
