, HENRY J. REED, or SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Specification a Letters-Patent; P te t d July 27 11920,
Application filed November 8, 1918 Serial No. 261,664.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IIENRYHJ. Rnnma citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and'exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art'towhich it appertains to make and use thesame.
My invention relates to improvementsin fastening devices and more particularly to means for supporting hose.
An important object of this invention is to provide a hose supporter comprising a pair of coactinggripping devices adapted to be applied to the limbs in a highly convenient and expeditious manner.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described, which is simple, neat in appearance and cheapto manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a fasten ing device embodying my invention, showing the same supporting a sock,
Fig. 2 is a similar view of my improved hose supporter showing the same prior to being locked in engagement with a sock,
Fig. 8 is a front elevation of a hose engaging member embodying the invention, and,
-Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a coacting locking member embodying the invention.
In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 designates a sock engaging member of a single length of wire bent intermediate its ends to form parallel arms 11 and a relatively long bight portion 12, the latter being curved longitudinally to con-form to the configuration of the limb. The end portions of the length of wire 10 are bent to form horizontal portions 13 having L shaped arms 1 1 extending therefrom. The
horizontal arms 13 are secured by suitable stitching to a pad 15 adapted" to space the sock engaging member 10 from the flesh.
A coacting sock engaging member 16,
clearly shown in Fig. 4, is made from a sheet of relatively light metal and is'curved longitudinally; to conform to the configuraion of the limbs. The same is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 17 in its lower portion thereof. A locking plate 18 provided with a curvature similar to the plate 16 is arranged on the outerside of the plate 16 and is provided along its upper edge with a longitudinally extending hinged barrel 19. A hinged 'pin 20 secured tothe' member 16 by rivets 21 extends throughthe barrel19 and effects a hinge connection between the plates 16 and 18. hen in a downward position, the locking plate 18 extends over the greater portion of" the elongatedo'pening 17. l j
As shown in Fig. 2, when itis desired to engage my improved fastening devicewith a sock, the member 10 is first passed between the limb and the upper portion of the sock. The upper portion of the sock arranged over the bight portion, 12 'is now passed-through the elongated opening 17 in the base plate 16. The bight portion 12 of the sock engaging member .10 is pressed downwardly or outwardly through the elongated slot 17 sufiiciently far enough to permit of the locking plate 18 to be swung downwardly and flush with the base plate 16. Upon the locking plate 18 assuming this position, the bight portion 12 is drawn over the outer side of the locking plate 18 and thus the sock is securely fastened as shown in Fig. 2.
IVhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understoodfthat I may make such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts, as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A device of the character described, comprising, a garment engaging member, a pad upon which the garment engaging member is arranged; a base plate adapted to 'bearranged outwardly of the garmentengaging member and having an elongated opening therein; a portion of said garment engaging member being adapted to extend through said elongated openings; and a locking plate adapted to lock said garment engaging member upon its entrance into said elongated opening.
2. A device of the character described,
comprising a longitudinally curved base plate having an elongated opening in lts lower end portion thereof; a garment engaging device formed from a single length into the elongated opening in said base plate. 7 1 a 7 3- A vdevice of the characterdescribed, comprising, a longitudinally curved base .plate havlng an elongated opening-in its lower end portion thereof; a garment engaging device formed from a single length ofmetal bent to afford a pair of parallel legs and an' intermediate bight portion the bight portion of said garment engaging device being adapted to extend through the elongated opening in said base plate; and
alongitudinally curved locking plate hingedly secured to the longitudinally curved plate, said longitudinally curved locking plate being adapted to engage the garment engaging device upon the entrance of the bight portion into the elongated opening in said base plate.
4. In a garment supporter, a supporting plate of a shape to conform to the leg of the same the wearer and provided with a longitudinal slot to receive the garment, a member for cooperation with the plate for retaining the garment in the slot and including a 'bar'adapted to pass through the slot and engage the garment, and a locking plate pivoted to the first named plate and engageable with the bar' to retain the latter in clamped engagement with the garment. I
5. A garment supporter, including a supported garment engaging bar a plate provided with a longitudinal slot to receive the bar and one edge of the garment to be supported, and a member engageable behind the barto retain the latter in position in the slot in clamped engagement with the garment. l e g 6. Ina garment supporter, a pad adapted to overliethe leg of the wearer, suspension elements attached to thepad, a longitudinally bowed plate overlying the pad and provided with a longitudinal slot to re ceive one end of the garment to be. supported, a garment engaging member carried bythe pad and including a bar which is off set from the pad and is adapted to pass through the slot and engage the garment, and a pivoted locking plate'mounted von the longitudinally bowed plate adapted tobe positioned behind the bar to retain in clamped engagement with the garment. a
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses. 1 V :HENRY J. REED. Witnesses: 1 i 1 i J. J. SMITH, ELLA MGKINEY.
