This invention relates to garment hangers. The general object of the invention is to provide an improved quick operating garment hanger. A,-.more specific object of the invention isto providea garment hanger including. a parallel link motion whereby the bottom of. a pair of trousers may be engaged and firmly held in position to preserve the creasethereinn Another object of. the invention is to provide a garment hanger including link members mounted in a. novel manner. 7
Qther objects and the advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following depanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a garment hanger.
embodying the features of my invention;
Fig; 2 is a transverse section through the garment hanger showing a pair of trousersgripped by the hanger;
Fig. 3 is an end view of the hanger in an open position;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing a modification;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing a further modification; and
' Fig. 6 is a transverse section showing the further modification.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters I have shown my invention as embodied in a garment support which is indicated generally at it. In the following description I have indicated the device as used for supporting a pair of trousers but it will be understood that this is only by way of illustration and that the device is adapted for use in supporting other garments and even for supporting articles such as towels, etc.
As shown the support is made of metal and includes an attaching base H which is preferably rectangular and which includes a front l2, a top H), a bottom M, ends 45 and attaching flanges l6,
A U-shaped upper link member comprising a front portion ii and ends it has inturned tips N! which pass through apertures in the ends IE to pivotally support the upper link member for swinging movement.
The support further includes a lower link member 20 which includes a front portion 25 having forwardly extending portions 22 at each side thereof. The portions 22 are integral with upwardly extending end portions 23 which merge into rearwardly extending portions .24. Each rearwardly extending portion 24 includes a loop 25' and an'inwardly turned end 26 which passes through an aperture in the adjacentend I5.
1e upper andilower links arepivotally united by a connecting link 21 which includes a front portion 2.8edisposed in alignment with the pork tion 20. The-portion 28-. includesrearwardly extending portions 25 at each end which merge into upwardly extending portions 30 which have a loop 3! surroundingthe upper link member, I! and thence are bent downwardly as at 32, thence laterallyto form prongs as at 33 with'the lateral portion 33 .passing through the loop 25 previously mentioned.
. The structure described provides a parallel link. motion so that the parts 2i and 27 move towards in manipulation.
In Fig. 4 I show a modification of my invention wherein the base portion 50 includes integral bracket portions 5!. The modification includes an upper link member having ends 52 from which portions 53 pass through apertures in the brackets 5!. The portion 5| includes a loop 54 and a downwardly extendingportion 55at each end with the portions 55 connected by a front portion '56 which receives an engaging member 51. The lower link 58 is U-shaped and includes ends 59 pivoted to the bracket. The ends are connected by a front portion 60. The connecting link includes ends 6| which have a tip 62 passing through the loop 54 and have loops 63 through which the portion 60 extends. The portions 6| are connected by a front member 64 which has atrouser engaging member 65 thereon.
The operation of the modification is similar to that previously described.
In Fig. 5 I show a further modification of my invention wherein the base is provided with an upper link member H which is in the form of a sheet metal member which is pivoted at 12 to ears 13 struck from the base.
The lower link member comprises an element 14 at each end of the base which is pivoted at to an ear 16 struck from the base. The connecting link 11 is a sheet metal member pivoted at 18 to downwardly extending tongues 19 on the upper link member. The connecting link has ears 80 which are pivoted at 8| to the lower link 14.
In operation the trousers are placed between the portions 11 on the connecting link and the lower edge 82 of the upper link member.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a garment support, a base adapted to be mountedon a supporting surface, a one piece upper link member, said link member being of U-shape and being pivotally mounted on the base, a one piece lower link member including rearwardly directed portions having their ends pivotally mounted on the base, and a one piece connecting link member pivotally engaging said upper link member and said rearwardly directed portions on said lower link member, said connecting link member having a portion aligned with a portion of said lower link member.
2. In a garment support, a base adapted to be mounted on a supporting surface, an upper link member, said link member being of U-shape and including a front and end portion, said end portions being pivotally mounted on the base, a
.lower link member including a front portion having upwardly directed end portions thereon, rearwardly directed portions integral with said end portions, said rearwardly directed portions having their ends pivotally mounted on the base, and a connecting link member pivotally engaging said upper link member and said rearwardly directed portions on said lower link member.
3. In a garment suppport, a base adapted to be mounted on a supporting surface, an upper link member, said link member being of U-shape and including a front and end portions, said end portions being pivotally mounted on the base, a lower link member including a front portion having upwardly directed end portions thereon, rearwardly directed portions integral with said end portions, said rearwardlydirected portions being parallel tosaid upper link member end portions, said rearwardly directed portions having their ends pivotally mounted on the base, and a connecting link member of general U-shape including a bottom and side portions, each of said side portions being pivotally mounted on said upper link front member, said connecting link member side portions having prongs thereon, each of said prongs pivotally engaging said lower link member, said connecting link member having a bottomportion aligned with said front lower link member.
4. In a garment support, a base adapted to be mounted on a supporting surface, an upper link member, said link member being of U-shape and including a front and end portions, said end portions being pivotally mounted on the base, a lower link member including a front portion having upwardly directed end portions thereon, rearwardly directed portions integral with said end portions, said rearwardly directed portions being parallel to said upper link member end portions and having loops therein, said rearwardly directed portions having their ends pivotally
