Description
W. S. FREEMAN.
HOLDER FOR CARBON SHEETS.
APPLICATION FILED DEC. I9, 1919.
1,347,692. Paten ed July 27, 1920.
WITNESSES INVENTOI? A TTORNEYS WILLARD STANLEY FREEMAN, orv YORK, N. Y.
Application filed December 19, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLARD STANLEY FREEMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Carbon-Sheets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in holders for carbon sheets, and has for its object to provide a device of the character specified, consisting of a cap so connected with the end of the sheet that sheets of paper may be arranged on the opposite sides of the carbon sheet with their ends in the cap, to permit a letter to be written and the carbon copy made while the sheets are so held, and about which cap the sheet is adapted to be folded when not in use, a sec-' ond cap being provided inclosing the first cap and the folded sheet of carbon for protecting the same, and permitting it to be carried without danger of soiling the hands or clothing. 7
In the drawings,
Figure l is a top plan view showing the device in use,
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing the carbon sheet folded and the holder complete, FFig. l is a section on the line 4-4 of The improvement is more especially designed for the use of travelers for permitting them to make a carbon copy of a letter, written for instance on hotel stationery, the arrangement being such that the carbon maybe carried and be instantly ready for use. The carbon sheet is connected with a holder or handle, which is in the form of a cap engaging the end of the sheet, and adapted to receive also the ends of the original and duplicate sheets to hold the three sheets in proper relation with respect to each other. .When not in use, the sheet is folded about the holder or handle and the folded sheet and the holder or handle are inserted in an envelop especially designed to receive them.
In the present embodiment of the invention, a cap 1 is provided of heavy paper, as for instance, such as is used in the manufacture of heavy envelops, and this cap has one end open as indicated at the right of Fig. 1,

the other end being closed, that is, the cap is a relatively long relatively narrow envelop having one side open, and one end open.
The carbon sheet indicated at 2 is arranged with one of its ends between the flaps or folds of the cap and the said sheet is secured to one of the flaps or folds of the cap, preferably the rear wall, or that wall adjacent to the carbon face of the extreme end of the sheet.
sheet, at the The arrangement is such that a portion of the sheet is left free from the side wall or fold of the cap, between the closed side thereof and the open side, the said portion being of such width that a sheet of letter paper indicated at 3 may have its end inserted in the cap between the carbon sheet and the rear fold or wall of the envelop. A sheet 4 of letter paper is arranged on the forward face of the carbon sheet, and when so arranged the device is ready for use, to
write a letter for instance. I
After the letter is written, the sheets of letter paper are removed, and the carbon sheet is wrapped about the cap 1 as indicated in Fig. 4. A second cap 5 is provided, the said cap being similar to the cap 1 but somewhat larger, but large enough in fact to receive the first capwith the carbon sheet folded thereabout.
This cap 5 is open at one side and one end and at the said end there is provided a flap or fold 6 connected with one side wall, or fold of the envelop, preferably the rear wall, the said flap or fold being adapted to fold within the envelop about the end of the wrapped up carbon. The other wall of the envelop. namely the front wall, is cut away as indicated at 7 to facilitate the in sertion of the fold 6, and to facilitate its re moval.
I claim:
1. In combination with a carbon sheet, of a cap into which one end of the sheet is fitted, said end of the sheet being secured to of the letter paper sheet inserted between the carbon sheet and the adjacent wall of the cap whereby the cap serves as a guide for the placing of the sheets in proper relation with the free edge of the said Wall, whereby to respect to the carbon. permit a sheet of letter paper to be arranged 2. In combination With a carbon sheet, of on each face of the carbon sheet, with one 10 a cap into Which'one end of the sheet is end of the letter paper sheet between the 5 fitted, said end of the sheet being secured carbon sheet and the adjacent wall' of the to one Wall of the cap at the extremity of cap. the carbon sheet and in spacedrelation to W. STANLEY FREEMAN.
