Description

H. MARTINDALE.

No. 134,691. Patented Jan. 7, 1873.
AM. P/mmmvomzc caunbseomsis mums) UNITED HAMILTON MARTINDALE, OF NEWARK, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO JAMES R. CROW, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN COMBINED CHAIRS, TABLES, AND BUREAUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,691, dated J annary 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAMILTON MARTIN- DALE, of Newark, in the county of Green and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Chair, Bureau, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of my piece of furniture in perspective.
Thisinvention has relationto a new article of furniture designed to accompany sewing-inachines; and it consists in the combination of a table, bureau, and chair hinged together in such a manner that when .not required for use they may be folded up into a compact form, substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the drawing, A A designate two rectangular frames hinged together at their open. ends, and supported upon legs B. The frame A is covered over and serves as a table for different purposes, and also as a support for a bureau, G, which, at the bottom of its face, is hinged to the raised part b of the table, and therefore capable of being turned over out of the way to admit of the desired folding of the chair back upon the table. The space in front of the bureau may be used to hold work or articles of clothing. The frame A is that of the chair having the side arm G and back H. The seat H slides in grooves in the sides of the frames A A, and may he slid back under the table to enable the chair to be turned over upon the latter.
In folding up this article of furniture the bureau is first inclined forward, and the chair, relieved of its seat, turned back so to pass over the bureau, after which the latter is raised to its proper position.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved article of furniture, consisting of the open chair-frame A having the movable seat H, and the table A having the bureau 0, both chair and table being hinged together, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HAMILTON MARTINDALE.
Witnesses A. M. HARRIS, JAMES CRAWFORD.
