H. E. MANNING.
WINDOW- SHADE FIXTURE.
APPLICATION FILED .IAN.2|,1920.

HENRY E. MANNING, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
WINDOW-SHADE FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 29, 1920.
Application filed January 21, 1920. Serial No. 353,067.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY E. MANNING, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in WVindow- Shade Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the char acters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in
Figure 1, a face View illustrating a win (low-shade fixture constructed in accordance with my invention and mounted upon a windowcasing.
Fig. 2, a side view of the same.
Fig. 3, a broken transverse sectional view thrinlgh the window-shade bracket.
This invention relates to an improve ment in window-shade fixtures, and particularly to fixtures which provide means for adjusting the sl'iade-roller at any desired elevation, the object of the invention being to provide simple means by which the shade may be conveniently mounted and readily adjusted to any position between the top and bottom of the window-easing; and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In rarrying out my invention, I employ two guideways and G which are arranged on opposite sides of the window-casing from which they are slightly oflset. These guides may be secured by screws 7 as shown at the top, or they may be entered into sockets 8 secured to the windowpi sing, as shown at the bottom of Figs. 1 and Q. Mounted upon these guides are slides 9 and 10, being formed from spring metal and adjustably connected with the guides 5 and 6 by clips 11 and i2. Preferably, the lower clips 12 will be provided with linger-pieces l3 by whi h the slides may be moved up and down upon the guide-ways. Adjustably connected with each of the slides is a window-shade bracket 14, these brackets being provided with the usual means for supporting a shade-roller 15 upon which a shade 16 -is mounted in the usual manner. Preferably, and as herein shown, the usual shade-bar 17 at the bottom of the shade is provided with tongues 18 which project outward beneath the guide-ways 5 and 6 which hold the bottom of the shade close against the window-casing, although this feature is not necessarily employed.
The window-shade brackets l l are formed at the outer ends of plates 19 and 20 which are slotted at their inner ends and connected by bolts 21 whereby the shades may be adjusted for varying widths of windows. The shade-brackets are also each formed with an upimrdly-projected spring linger 22 which bears upon the outer faces of the slides 9 and 10 so as to have frictional e11- gagement therewith. With this construction, the brackets may be adjusted vertically upon the slides and the slides adjusted vertically upon the guide-ways and so that the shade-roller may be located at any desired point between the top and bottom of the window-casing. hen at the top, the lower ends of the slides are in convenient position to be grasped so that the shaderoller may be pulled downward with the slides i then pulled downward upon the slides if further movement is desired.
I claim:
1. A shade fixture comprising a pair of guide-ways arranged parallel with each other on opposite sides of a window-casing and extending from top to bottom thereof, slides shorter than said guide-ways adjustably mounted thereon, and a window-shade bracket adjustably mounted upon each of the said slides.
2. A. combination with two guide-ways secured to and oliset from a window-casing, a slide mounted upon each of the said guideways and including clips at opposite ends engaging with said guide-ways, a bracket formed with a clip engaging with each of the said slides, said brackets connected together, and the said slides formed at their l r ends with finger-lit In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the scribing witnesses.
HENRY E. MANNING.
