WINDOW-SHADE FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 658,317, dated September 18, 1906. Application filed February 23, 1898. Renewed April 9, 1900, Serial No. 12,184. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. FORBES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVindow-Shade Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the fol lowing specification is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will onable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
My invention relates to improvements in window-shade fixtures; and the object of my improvements is to provide fixtures capable of adjustment vertically and horizontally to accommodate any length of roller and to raise or lower the roller at will. I attain this object by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my device. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a portion of my device. Fig. 3 is a View showing my device attached to a window with shade-roller in position.
The Vertical rod A is provided with the plates B and 0, having the perforated lugs 12 and c and by which it may be secured to the window-casing. The plate 0 has also the pulley-wheel D attached to it. The slide E is made to run upon the rod A by means of the perforated lug K. The bar G is secured horizontally to the plate E by the lugs F. A rollerbracket H, having the setscrew J, slides upon the bar G. The bars A are attached to the window-frame X, and the cords L and M, passing over the pulley-wheels D, operate the shade-roller Y.
My device is intended to be used as an adjustable shade-fixture capable of being adj usted to any window, to any length of shaderoller, and to allow the shade to be lowered or raised at pleasure without being removed from the fixtures.
The guide-bar A is made of any suitable metal and is of any shape except cylindrical. It is about two feet in length and is secured in a vertical position to the side of the window-frame, one on each side, by thescrew plates B and 0, having the perforated lugs 19 and a, into which the ends of the bar A fit. Upon the bar A, I slide the plate E by means of the perforated lugs K. This sliding plate E has the horizontal bar G secured at either end in the lugs F. Upon the bar G is the sliding roller-bracket H,'having the slot I and the set-screw J. From the rear of the plate E extend at right angles the perforated lugs K, which are intended to engage the bar A. When the plate E is in position upon the vertical bar A, which is attached to the window-frame, the sliding roller-bracket H can be set by the set-screw J to accommodate any length of shade-roller. The pulley-cord has one end L attached to the plate E on the inside of the window-casing and runs over the pulley-wheel D above it, thence over the pulley-wheel D on the other side of the window, and down to the stop 0. The other end of the pulley-cord M is secured to the plate E on the opposite side of the window and runs up over the pulley-wheel above it and thence down to the stop 0. By pulling the two cords downward the shade is raised to the top of the window and secured by catching the ends of the cord in the stop 0. By lowering the shade in this way light is let in without exposing the room, and if the window is down from the top the shade is not whipped by the wind.
What I claim as my invention, and desire Letters Patent for, is-
An adjustable curtain-fixture composed of a vertical rod secured to each of the vertical inner faces of the window-frame, horizontal plates sliding vertically thereon provided with horizontal guide-rods and shade-roller brackets provided with set -screws sliding horizontally on the guide-rods attached to the said plates, in combination with cords, pulleywheel and cord-stop for raising and lowering the fixtures, as described and specified.
