Description

S. J. LASK. CURTAIN FIXTURE APPLICATION FILED JUNE 7.1919.
Patented June 22, 1920.
STEPHEN J. LASK, 0F CLEVELAND, OHIO.
CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 22, 1920.
Application filed June 7, 1919. Serial No. 302,622.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN J. LASK, a subject of the Government of Austria, residing at Cleveland, in thecounty of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to supporting de-' vices for lace curtains and draperies and has for its ob ects the provlsion of means whereby the fixture may be supported from the window casing in a manner whichwill not injure the finish or the woodwork, the
provision of means whereby the device may be adjusted to accommodate casings of varying dimensions, means for adjusting the curtains to hang evenly and means whereby draperies may be hung in front of the lace curtain without additional fixtures.
The foregoing may be accomplished in the embodiment of the invention shown in the'accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the device supported in front of a window casmg;
Fig. 2 is a central elevation on the line 2-2 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 3 is a transverse section 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a perspective of one of the sup porting hooks. I
The device comprises two telescoping tubular portions 1 and. 2 with a longitudinal slot or opening at the bottom for the egress of the curtain. The part 1 is of slightly larger diameter than the part 2 and at the edges of the aforementioned slot the material. is turned back upon itself as shown at 1* to forma slide for the edges of the part 2. This provides a smooth edge which will on the line 7 not harm the curtain and also a means whereby the edges of the part2 may be held against displacement. Ornamental heads or caps 4 are provided with annular beads 5 of larger diameter than the tubes '1 and 2 insertion within the openings in the heads 4:, the tubes occupying the interior of the heads 4:. By this construction the heads are securely fixed to the parts 1 and 2.
Two telescoping tubular rods 7' and 8 have their'ends secured to the interior of the heads 4 by means of studs 13 formed of a strap 14 suitably secured to the head 4, as by means of soldering, the rods being slipped upon the studs and soldered thereto. This construction permits of a very rigid joint being obtained at this point. They are adapted to support the curtains and draperies. These rods are spaced e uidistant from the axis of the parts 1 anil 2 and it will be seen that if one curtain is placed upon each side of the center, by turning the heads 4 in opposite directions, the curtains may be adjusted to hang evenly, a fault being heretofore impossible to adjust when the curtains have been stretched unevenly in laundrying.
The fixtures may be supported by a hook 9' made with the hooked portion 10 to conform in shape to that part of the head 1 which it occupies and with an extension 11 provided with teeth 12 which engage the upper part of the window casing, the weight of the fixture being sufficient to cause the teeth to bite into the wood. Thus it willbe seen that a supporting means is provided which enables thedevice to be hung from any casing with minimum labor and without injury I claim: I
1. A hollow slotted telescopic curtain pole having end pieces slidable on and off the same, and a telescopic rod in the pole formed of two sectionseach of which is rigidly fixed to one of said end pieces and slidable' therewith, whereby the rod is extended or contracted by movement of said end pieces, said rod being adapted to support a curtain or tile like in position to hang through said s 0t.
2. A hollow telescopic curtain pole having a longitudinal slot, removable heads on the ends of the pole, and'a plurality of sectional rods extending lengthwise within the pole and eccentric to the axis thereof, the sections of the rods being fixed at their ends to the inside of the heads respectively.
In testimony whereof I do aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
STEPHEN J. LASK.
