IMPROVEMENT IN RACKS FOR WINDOWS AND CARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. h3d,3'75, dated December 31, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TRAUGOTT FRENZEL, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Racks for Railroad Oars, Windows, 850.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figurel is a perspective view of my improved basket, and Fig. 2 is a view of the same with the parts detached.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in each.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention,I will describe its construction and manner of use.
The rack consists of the bottom piece a, side piece 12, and end pieces 0 c, which are made of any desired design or ornamental shape. The piece b and end pieces 0 c are fastened together by the hooks d d hooking into recesses cl d of corresponding shape or to pins or staples d in the corner posts 0. lower edges of the side and end pieces b and c c are a series of lugs, f, placed in pairs at suitable intervals, each pair forming a recess or groove, g, the said grooves all being in the same horizontal plane. The bottom a is slid into these grooves laterally, and is there fastened by bolts or rivets h passing through the lugs f f at the inner corners of the frame.
If desired, there may be additional fastenings for securing the parts together; but it is not tnecessary, as those described are sufficien Along the inner It is not material that there should be the exact number of lugs shown.
The rack is secured in place to the wall or to a window-frame in any desired way; but I prefer to fasten it by means of hooks i, as it is, when so secured, very easily removed.
When the frame is to be used as a rack for railroad cars and in houses I make it of wood or of light metallic castings or other suitable material. In case it is made of wood, instead of the groove g being formed by the lugs f, it may be out into the inner faces of the side and end pieces, as in such case such construction will serve equally as well as the first described.
When the frame is designed to be used as a basket for holding flower-pots, &c., in the front of windows, I make it much heavier, so as to sustain the greater weight upon it. In this case. I generally cast it of iron.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The rack consisting of the sides I) and ends 0 c and bottom a secured or fastened together, substantially in the manner hereinbefore described.
