Description

J. DUNLAP.
FOOTREST.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 2, 1920,
-1,343, 1 1 9. Patented June 8, 1920.
M. a it JOHN DUNLAP, OF CAMDEN, SOUTH CAROLINA.
FOOTREST.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN DUNLAP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camden, in the county of Kershaw and State of South Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Footrests, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a foot rest for radiators and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for detachably securing a support to the radiator upon which the feet may rest while being warmed.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for clamping the support to the radiator so that it may be easily and quickly placed in position or removed from the radiator.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the sev eral views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of a radiator showing my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a bottom View of the device.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the device. v
In these views 1 indicates the foot support which .is detachably connected therewith. This support consists of the shelf 3 having the depending flange 4 around its ends and front edge and the wide flange 5 depending from its rear edge. A U-shaped bar 6 is secured to the under face of the shelf with its ends engaging the flange on the front edge thereof. The cross bar of this part is spaced from the shelf and receives the eyes 7 at the ends of the second U-shaped member 8. Intermediate the ends of the limbs of this second member other eyes 9 are formed to receive the cross bar of a third U-shaped member 10. The limbs of this third member pass through holes 11 in the flange 5 and Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jnne 8, M520.
Application filed January 2, 1920. Serial No. 348,750.
forward movement of the third member will cause the bar 13 and the flange o to grip the front and rear sides of the radiator and thus clamp the device to said radiator. In this way the shelf is firmly supported on the radiator and may be easily and quickly removed therefrom or adjusted in position thereon.
By this device a person may rest his feet on the device so as to bring them close'to the radiator to warm them.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
VVhatI claim is 1. In combination with a radiator, a foot rest having a flange thereon for engaging the radiator, bars projecting from the flange and adapted to pass through the radiator, another bar adapted to be secured to the ends of the first bars at the rear of the radiator and a handle member hinged to the rest for moving the first mentioned bars longitudinally to clamp the device on the radiator.
2. In combination with a radiator, a foot rest having a depending flange thereon for engaging the radiator, a hinge member on the lower part of the rest, a Ushaped member connected with the hinge member and havingits limbs passing through the flange and adapted to pass through the spaces be tween the-tubes of the radiator and a bar connected with the extremities of said limbs for engaging the rear of the radiator when the hinge member is swung forwardly.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOHN DUNLAP.
