Description

W. R. KIRKENDALL AND G. C. WOOD.
ATTACHMENT FOR FOLDING MUSIC STANDS.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-4. 1919.
1,359,311, v Patented Nov. 23, 1920.
a UNITE srarss WILBER KIRKE' DALL Ann eEoitGE dwooi), or sALINA, KA S I ATTACHMENT" Fae FOLDING Music-swam s.
T all whom it may concern 1 Befit known that we, WILBER R. KIRK- ENDALL and GEORGE C. Noon, citizens of the United States, residing at Salina, in the county of Saline and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'Attachments for Folding Music- Stands; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to attachments for folding music stands. a 7
One object of the invention is to provide an attachment for folding music stands having a music sheet supporting ledge made up of a pair of swinging sections, said attachment being designed to clamp the sections and form a bridge across their jointed ends to prevent them from coming out of longi tudinal alinement when the frame is in open position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device for detachable connection to the sheet supporting ledge of a collapsible which will be extremely simple, strong, durable and inexpensive in construction, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application and in which similar reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views,
Figure l is a perspective view of a collapsible music sheet supporting frame, showing a device constructed in accordance with this invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through the lower part of the supporting faces of the ledge above referred to.
connected ends of the members 4 and 5 are p Specificationof Letters Patent. Patqgntga 23 "Application filed August .4, 1919. "Serial No. 315,196.; I
with a ledge upon which' the music -sheets are adapted to rest. The ledge is'fdisposed their inner ends so that they may swing u'pwardly or downwardly'when the frame is folded. "When the frame is in'opened position the sections 1 and 2 are disposed in longitudinal alinement, but after the frame has been used for a considerablelength of time the parts become worn and the'joints I become loose so that these sections have a tendency to slant downwardly from' their rail having means for detachable connection to the sectlons-l and2 and is to be placed so as to bridge the jointed ends of the sections.
This rail 3 is made from a plate bent upon itself on a longitudinal line disposed sub stantially midway of the edges of the frame a lower clamping member 5. The free edges of the clamping members 4 and 5 are bent inwardly upon themselves as at 6 and 7 respectively to form parallel opposing jaw.
faces and to form a considerable space between the other portion of the members. The opposing jaw faces are substantially the same area as that of the opposing slurbentupwardly to form an upstanding flange 8. The. flange 8 having its sides disposed at right angles to the faces of the members Hence .70 ointed ends. To overcome this the present 1 lnvention was devlsed and it consists of a to form' an upper clamping memberl and, v
are snapped on the sheet supporting ledge of the supporting frame.
The device is easily applied to the supporting frame by first disposing the longitudinally alined sections 1 and 2 at the free edges of the members 4 and 5 and then 1 by pressing the rail soas to spring the members and permit the's'ections to be disposed. between them. When in this position, the. sections 1 and'2'will be maintained at all Sheets of times in longitudinal alinement. music which may be placed upon the rail 3 will not slide transversely off of the same,
this being prevented by the flange From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying dravvings,.
V spirit of the invention as defined in, the
claims. 7
lfVhat is claimed is: I
1. In a collapsible music sheet supporting frame, the combination of a sheet supporting ledge composed of a pairof pivotally connected swinging sections positioned in longitudinal alinement when the frame is opened and a straight rigid supplemental sheet supporting ledge having upper and lower clamping flanges receiving said sections therebetween substantially throughby to maintain said sections in longitudinal alinementr V 2. A device of the class described comprising a plate bentupon itself intermediate of its edges on a. longitudinally extending line to. form comparatively long straight opposing clamping members engageable With the sheet supporting ledge of a collapsi'- ble'music sheet supporting frame, throughout substantially the length thereof, and the connected edges ofsaid members being'bent laterally to form a longitudinally extend ing sheet retainingflange. V
In testimony whereof We have hereunto set our hands.
WILBER R. KIRKENDALL. GEORGE O. WOOD.
