EDWARD J. OOLGAN, OF KANSAS CITY, KANSAS.
TRIPLE-FEED-BAG SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 14, 1908.
Patented June 22, 1909.
Serial No. 448,492.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. COLGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Wyandotte and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Triple-Feed-Bag Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a triple feed-bag supporter for three-horse teams; and it consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
The principal objects of my invention are, first, to provide a feed-bag supporter which may be attached to the tongues of a vehicle and supported thereby ad acent to the horses heads, and second, to provide a feed-bag supporter with a folding frame and flexible receptacles, so that when the supporter is removed from the tongues and folded the receptacles may be compressed and made to occupy but little space.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the invention, Figure 1 represents a plan view of the invention in position on the tongues of a vehicle. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section on line III-III of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the device in a partly folded position.
1 designates a pair of tongues with which the ordinary three-horse vehicle is provided. Said tongues have the customary loops 2 at their forward ends. In carrying out my invention, which is adapted to be detachably secured to the tongues, I employ a folding frame, consisting of two outer sections 3, and an intermediate section 4. Each outer section consists of a loop 5 and a pair of inwardly extending arms 6. The intermediate section consists of a loop 7 and two pairs of outwardly extending arms 8 which are hinged to the arm 6, so that the device may be folded when not in use. Each pair of arms 8 is provided with a series of openings 9, for the reception of bolts 10, whereby said arms are hinged to the arms 6. By providing the arms 8 with openings 9, the two outer sections 3 may be adjusted toward or away from the intermediate section 4 to accommodate tongues spaced varying distances apart. The rear ends of the arms 6 and 8 have downwardly extending clam ing members 11 and 12, and the forward one s of said arms are provided with hooks 13 and downwardly extending fingers 14 respectively, said clamping members hooks, and fingers providing means whereby the device may be detachably secured to the tongues. Sections 3 and 4 are 'rovided with feed- bags 15 and 16 respectivel consisting of canvas or other flexible material which may be collapsed when the device is folded, so that the same may be stored in a small space.
INhen it is desired to secure the device in position upon the tongues, sections 3 are raised at right angles to section 4. This brings the hooks 13 and fingers 14 in position to be inserted through the openings formed by loops 2 and the forward ends of the tongues, and also spreads the clamping members 11 and 12 so they may grasp the tongues, as shown in Fig. 3. The outer sections 3 are then let down to a horizontal position and while in this position, it will be impossible to accidentally dislodge the device, as the weight thereof, together with the weight which it carries, tends to make the clamps, and hooks, and the fingers firmly engage the tongues. To remove the device, it is only necessary to again raise the outer sections 3, when the device may be readily lifted from the tongues.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A triple feed-bag supporter consisting of two outer sections, an intermediate section hinged to said outer sections, and means on said sections for securing the supporter to the tongues of a vehicle.
2. A triple feed-bag supporter consistmg of two outer sections each comprising a loop and a pair of inwardly-extending arms, an intermediate section comprising a loop and two pairs of arms hinged to the arms on the outer sections, and means on said arms for engaging the tongues of a vehicle.
3. A triple feed-bag supporter consisting of an intermediate section, two outer sections adjustably secured to the intermediate section, and means on said sections for securing the supporter to the tongues of a vehicle.
4. A triple feed-bag supporter, consisting E In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, g? twcz1 outer sections, an internliediate section in the presence of two Witnesses.
'n e to said outer sections, 0 am in memher? on the sections for engaging the t ongues EDWARD COLGAN' 5 of a vehicle, and hooks and fingers on said Witnesses:
sections for engaging the ton ues and the F. G. FIsoHER, loops at the forward ends of sald tongues. M. COX.
