FOLDING TROUSERS-CREASER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
, Patented J une 30, 1914.
Application filed October 15, 1913. Serial No. 795,353.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, TULLY C. TURNEY, aI citizen of the United States, residing at Nevada, in the county of lVyandot and Statev of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Folding Trousers-Greaser, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a trousers creaser, and one object of the invention is to provide a device of this type which may be folded up into small compass, permitting the same to be carried about in a grip `or;trun k.
Another object of the invention is to provide a structure of the sort above mentioned which, although foldable when not in use will be stiff and rigid when applied `to the trousers.
The invention aims to provide novel means for connecting the compression members of the creaser and for producing relative movement between the compression members, these ends being carried out through the employment of a minimum number of parts.
It is within the scope of the invention to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
7With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 shows the invention in elevation, applied to a pair of trousers; Fig. 2 is a top plan; Fig. 3 is an elevation, showing the parts as the same will appear when the opposed compression members are swung away from each other; Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the creaser folded up upon itself, parts being broken away; Fig. 5 is a plan of the leaf which is interposed between the compression members.
As will be understood readily from Fig. 1 of the drawings, the device herein disclosed comprises a pair of frames which are applied to the longitudinal edges of the trousers, to effect a creasing thereof. Since these frames are duplicates, but one of them need be described in detail. Each frame comare pins 5 adapted to be received in recesses 6 formed in the end facesof the parts 3 adjacent the hinges 4, aswill be appreciated best when Fig. 4 is noted. Secured to the parts 2 and to the parts 3 of the compression members, in lopposed relation, 4are hinges 8,
the hinges 8 of the parts 2 2 `and 3 3 respectively being connected by pivot elements 9,. y One of the hinges 8 carries a lever 10 fulcrumed upon a pivot element 7 and comprising a curved finger 11 adapted to coperate with a projection 12 on the other hinge, as Fig. 2 will most clearly show.
Presupposing that the parts are arranged as shown in Fig. 3, one leg of the trousers is laid on one of the compression members 1, a leaf preferably in the form of a thin slat 14, shown in Fig. 5, is laidupon the leg of the trousers, the other leg of the trousers is superposed upon the slat or leaf, and then the other compression member 2 3 is swung over transversely with the pivot elements 9 as hinge joints. Thus, the compression members 2 3 are brought opposite to each other, whereupon they are compressed upon the edges of the trousers by manipulating the levers 10 so that the fingers 11 engage around the projections 12. Before the trousers are inserted between the compression members 2 3, the trousers are wet slightly along the portions to be creased, the water used in wet-ting the trousers being cold and the trousers being cold pressed. In this manner, no injury is imposed on the cloth, as is the case when the trousers are hot pressed. The rule joint hinges 4 knuckle together and prevent the compression members from folding inwardly, reference being had particularly to Fig. 1. Further, the compression members cannot fold outwardly, after they are applied to the trousers, because the leaf or flap 14 is pressed tightly between the opposed compression members. In order to fold up the structure, the compression members 2 3 are swung with respect to each other from the positions shown in Fig. 3 until they assume the positions shown in Fig. 1, and then both compression members are folded backwardly until their rear edges abut, as shown in Fig. 4, the hinges 4 permitting this movement,
l. ln a trousers creaser, a pair of opposed compression members; pivotally connected hinges secured to the compression members; and a clamp movable upon one hinge, the other hinge having an element with which the clamp coacts.
Q. ln a trousers creuser, a pair of opposed compression members; pivotally connected hinges secured to the compression members; v
and a lever Jfulcruined on one hinge and provided Witli a finger, the other hinge having a projection around which the finger engages to :torce the compression members to` getlier.
3. ln a trousers creaser, a pair of compression members each including parts foldable in the direct-ion of their length; pivotally connected hinges united With the parts of the respective compression members; a clamping device on one hinge; and means on the other hinge for engaging with the clamping device.
L in a trousers creaser, a pair of compression members, each comprising hingedly connected parts; a leaf inserted between the compression members; and means for forcing the compression members toward each other and upon the leaf to prevent relative movement between the hingedly connected parts of each compression member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
