Description

J. E. MILLER. TROUSERS PRESSING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED DEG. 5, 1911.
//v VEN TOR. W
' .A TTORNE I meritorious features of the improved article vThis srAT PATENT OFFICE Q Q JAMES E. MILL'EaoF BRIADDOCK, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR or ONE-HALF mo Jon rir I srxsnrrrn, or nomssrsan, PENNSYLVANIA.
'rRoUsEas-rnsssine DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To whom it may concern! Be it known that I, J A'MEs E. MIL ER, a citizen of the United States, residing at 670 First street, Braddock, in the county of AL legh'eny and Stateof- Pennsylvania, have invented'certamnew and useful Improvements. in Trousers-Pressing Devices, oi which thefollowing is a specification.
The present invention relates to an imsigned to perfect devices of in several particulars, I r
"Prominent among the advantages vand this character are its simplicity of construction; durability and. strength; lightness of construction; facility of manipulation; and above all its efticiency in; operation, as 'the device not only presses the trousers, but; performs the ad- L-- dit-ionalyfunct-ion of creasing-the legs at fronta'ndrear, thussecuring a neat and attract-ive.appearance the wearer of the trousers th'i'is treated: I g
The-I iVentio'nconsists 4 details of construction arid combinations and arrangements of parts as" hereinafter set tort-h particularly pointed out; in the andlniore claims-1 Y In the accompanying drawings I :have illustrated smo -example ot'the physical embodiment of my invention constructed -according-tothe-best mode I, have so far devised for the practical application of the principles.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, in position to be hung up or suspended,- When not in use. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line AA;Fig. 1, illustrating a pair of trousers-creasing boards, and the mode of securing the pressing members in locked position; Fig. 3 illustrates two forms of trousers-creasing or filler boards, one form having a cutout on'curved lines at one end, and the other form having a solid end, as indi cated indotted lines.
-mode of operation of the device, showieg l in certain, novel Fig. illustrates the duplicate'folding boards iZ'and 3, which are usually made of thin material, such as wood.
v The boards 1, 2, and3 are connected-together by means of the strap hinges,..which as clearly shown in Fig. '2, extend entirely around .the device when in folded and operatlve position, and .in
compact and rigid construction.
In Fig. 6 it will be evident that the .rib
termediate hinges 6, 6, will materially and substantially; strengthen the device between the. lockihg hinges. f
Near each end of thedevi'ce'is located a locking hinge, each of which comprises a strap similar to strap 1 ,of the intermediate,
hinges 6, but the leaves], 7 are of a dif-. terent'constructiorij'than those ofthe inter-I mediate hinge. v
The leaves or straps? jahd 7" vare";jointed at 8 to the hinge "strapghl atthe' linde-rsid e of the base board. it4ini1r free end the hinge strap or leaf 'Ti has i by means of a pin ,9, thege 10,. and J this lever has loosely fiiifotedtliereima ring 11, which isadaptedj'ito' hook'ofver thev curled or'hoolred 'end1 2iof 'th i tary strap 7, clearly'sen' i H" Specialattention is calletllto lthe fact that the straps 7 extend over and V s ammed; joining edge of the o'ppos'i 3; that the under side of the adjoiningedges of the' boards 2 and 31 ar ejbej veledas at 13,
and that a "groovef'le eiit'ends" the entire length of the baseboard, at its inner side, complementary to the groove formedby the beveled edges 13 of the folding boards.
A spring pressed wooden strip 15 is provided at one end of the base board and sirable to employ one and if necessary, two 105 pressers boards as 18, made of pasteboard,
or other light material of this character. of the boards is inserted between the and for this purpose is cutaway, as a to accommodate the fiiil iess in the Patented Septi17, 1912,
p this manner v strengthen'theentire device and provide a sis 4 of the strap 5, which forms part of the inee i t e .9
the trousers. v The. other board may be lo cated under the-folding boards, asqseen in Fig. 5.
In operation, the device is laid upon a table with the baseboard 1 resting flat. thereupon, and thespring clasp isdrawn back, as in Fig. t. One leg is now placed upon the base board' and smoothed out-to eliminate the wrinkles.
One 'of the boards 18 is now placed upon the smooth leg, and preferably a board \vith'the cutout 19 is used, as shown in. Fig. 4. The secondleg is now laid over and smoothed out upon the paste board and the leg bottoms are. clasped between. the end of the base board andthe spring clasp 15.
In Fig. 5 it will be seen that: the paste-boards and the folding boards are not .so long as the base board and this construction provides for the increased thickness of the leg bottoms so that they may be held firmly between the clasp and baseboard, and Figs. 1 and 4 show the opposite ends of the folding boards cut away to allow for the increased fullness at the seat of the trousers. ;After the second leg has been positioned the second paste board is laid upon the ,trousers', and the boards :2 and 3 folded in toward. each other,
to the position shown in Fig.2, where the. rings 11 have beenhooked ot'er the; curled.
end 12 of the strap 7. The hinges arenow ready to be locked, and the; levers 10 are swung over to the left in Fig. Ztoth'e position in .Fig. I. This movement draws the two folding board-sections together, and the overlapping hinge strap 7 pressesdown on the edge of the section 3 to securely and firmly lock t-he'parts in a-flat position pressing upon the inclosed trousers;
An inspection of Fig. 2 will illustrate the squeezing action of the folding boards upon the legs, which' action, and the Continued pressure, forms a neat and serviceable crease at the front and back of the trousers legs.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to. secure by Letters Patent is l. The combination with a base board and complementary folding boards hinged thereto, of a lever pivotedon one hinge strap on a folding board and carrying a ring, and the hinge strap on the opposing folding board having a hooked end to receive said ring, whereby the folding boards may be folded down upon and held togthe base 1 board.
baseboard with the folding boards, the
hingestraps onone folding'boa-rd adapted to overlap the adjoining edge'of the opposite board and having a lever pivoted there'or'n-a hooked hinged strap on the opposite board,
and a ring carried by staidv lever" adapted -to engage said hooked strap. i
In testimony whereof I afiix'my' signature in presence of two witnesses.
