Application filed January 5, 1920. Serial No. 349,620.
(FILED UNDER. THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1883, 22 STAT. In, 625.)
To all w 710m it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs M. CHURCH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of llashington, District of Columbia, have invented an Improvement in Attachments for Filin -Cabinets, of which the following is a speci cation.
The invention described herein may be used by the Government, or any of its ofiicers or employes in prosecution of work for the Government, or by any other person in the United States. without payment of any royalty thereon.
"This invention relates to improvements in attachments for filing cabinets and more particularly to a shelf adapted to be detachably connected to a drawer of the filing cabinet. The peculiar advantages of this invention comprise lightness in construction, portability, cheapness in manufacture and adaptability for use upon a variety of cabinets. I
Referring more particularly to the drawin s: 1
I igure 1 represents a perspective view of the filing cabinet provided with my improved attachment.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the shelf,
and
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the modified form of the invention.
In the drawings 1 represents a filing cabinet of well known construction provided with drawers 2. Attached to the upper edge of one of the drawers by means of hangers 3, provided at their upper ends with hooks 4 is a shelf 5. This shelf is secured to the hangers 3 at its underside by screws 6, and between said hangers there is attached by means of an angle iron 7 a downwardly projecting rectangular block 8 which is designed when the shelf is in position to be embraced by the drawer handle. Thisv lower block not only serves to prevent the shelf from bending downwardly but operates to center the shelf with reference to the drawer end.
Instead of the block 8 two iron bars 9 may be attached to the lower face of the shelf as is shown in Fig. 3. While the hangers 3 serve to aid in keeping the shelf in proper position it has been found in many cases that they may be omitted, the bars 9 serving as the sole' support. These bars may be obviously of such width as to fit snirigly into the handle of the drawer.
aving thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a cabinet, the drawer provided with a center loop handle, a shelf seated upon said handle and hangers securing said shelf and overhanging the top of the drawer.
2. A shelf provided with a depending bracket upon the lower side and upwardly projecting hangers'located on the opposite sides of said bracket.
