J ONES PINNELL, OF PITTSTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLTTIGHTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. hqb, dated December 24, 1872.
To all whom @t may concern:
Be it known that I, J oNEs P1NNELL,of Pittston, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain Improvement in a Belt-Tightener for Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a specification:
This invention has for its objectto improve the construction of belttighteners in such manner as to prevent the belt from slipping ofi' the tightening-roller when the latter is pressed against the former. To this end the i invention consists in the construction and armounted a roller, i. The arms e project past the roller z', as shown, to a suiieient distance to form stops for the belt at each side, so as t0 prevent the belt from slipping off the roller. The belt on is supposed to pass between the arms e; hence, by moving the latter, the setscrew being loosencd toward the belt, the latter can be tightened to any required degree, and by moving the bar away from the belt the latter is loosened.
I am aware that a roller in a sliding bar is not new as a belt-tighteuer.
I claim as my invention- The combination ofthe at plate A, slotted bar B, set-screw c, curved arms e, and roller t, said roller being placed between said arms, and the latter projecting past the roller so as to form stops for the belt at both sides, all constructed, arranged, and operating as and for the purpose described.
