LAP RENG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 309, 82, dated December 16, 183%.
Application filed July 14, 1884.
10 (t-ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAII \V. McLnNDoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Martins Station, in the county of Dallas and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in LapRings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawlugs.
My invention relates to improvements in lap-rings, and is designed, objectively, to pro duce a connecting-link that shall be easily and quickly attached and detached, and at the same time be strong and efficient, also be simple enough in construction as to not easily get out of order.
The annexed drawings, used for reference in the description following, illustrate a device in which the various objects are accomplished, and in them Figure 1 represents a perspec tive ofa lap-ring opened, and Fig. 2 an edge view of one having a pin instead of the turned and recessed end.
A designates one piece or half of the ring, and is C-shaped. Each of the ends is recessed, as shown at B, but on opposite sides.
Pivoted centrally on the piece A by means of an extension, 0, is a piece, D, ot'siinilar shape to the said piece A and recessed to fit. The extension 0, formed integral with the piece D, does not bear directly against the piece A, but has an interposed Washer, E, which prevents the piece 0 from being worn, and thus renders the connections loose and liable (No model.)
to misfit. Instead of having both pieces of G shape in Fig. 2, the piece D has one end recessed only at the extreme end at F, and there also provided with a hole, G. The piece A has only one end rounded, and the other is re cessed to fit on F, and is there provided with a pin, H, which fits in the hole G, and thereby relieves the pivot of strain when the device is in operation.
Having described the device, what I claim is- 1. A lap-ring formed oftwo pieces, one pro vided at one end with a recess, at the inner end of which is a hole, and the other piece provided at the coincident end with an interlocking recess, the said end carrying a pin, which enters the hole when the ring is closed.
2. A lap-ring formed of two pieces, one be ing (3 shaped and provided with a central extension, to which the other is pivoted,a washer interposing, the two pieces being recessed, so as to interlock at one end of the ring, and also recessed at their other ends, where one piece is provided with a hole and the other carrying a pin, the parts operating to coincide and interlock when the ring is closed, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELIJ AH \V. MOLENDON.
