Description

WOLFE,
GRATE SHA BAR. PPLICATION FILED A A .1919. 1,393,930. Patented Oct. 18,1921.
PATENT OFFICE.
ELIJAH K. WOLFE, OF PADUCAI-I, KENTUCKY.
GRATE-SHAKER BAR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH K. lVoLFE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paducah, in the county of Mocracken and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Grate-Shaker Bar, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to grate shaker bar couplings, its principal object being to provide a coupling which maybe coupled and uncoupled quickly and which will effectively retain the shaker and grate shaker bar sections in coupled position.
Another general object of the invention is to provide a grate shaker bar coupling having the above characteristics which is simple in construction, which consists of few parts, and which may be manufactured and sold at minimum cost.
With the above and other objects and advantages in mind, the invention consists of the combination of elements, constructions and arrangements of parts, operations and general assemblage, all of which will be hereinafter enlarged upon and set forth in the appended claim, the invention being illustrated in the attached drawings, where- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the grate shaker bar assembled;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary elevation showing the ends of the grate shaker bar operatively connected together;
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3-% of Fig. 1.
The device forming the subject matter of this application includes a pair of shaker and grate bar sections 5 and 6, respectively, the section 5 being provided with a broadened head 7, and the section 6 being provided with a broadened head 7, the heads being located at the meeting ends of the sections. The head 7 of the section 6 has a frusto-conical Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented Oct. 18, 1921.
Application filed August 30, 1919. Serial No. 320,896.
projection 12 defining a shoulder 14 at the end of the head 7'. The projection 12 is prov ded with a flat longitudinal surface 15 and is supplied with a transverse groove 10. one side wall of which is formed by the shoulder 14. The head 7 of the section 5 has a cylindrical extension 17 provided with a frusto-conical recess 8 receiving the projection 12. The extension 17 has an inwardlv extended lug 9 movable along the flat surface 15 when the projection 12 enters the recess 8, the lug being received in the groove 10 when the sections 5 and 6 are rotated with respect to each other, the end of the extension 17 thus being held in abutment with the shoulder 14.
hat is claimed is:
In a device of the class described, a shaker bar section, and a grate bar section, the sections being provided at their meeting ends with broadened heads, the head of one section having a frusto-conical projection defining a shoulder at the end of said head. the projection having a flat longitudinal surface and being provided with a transverse groove one side wall of which is formed by the shoulder. the head of the other section having a cylindrical extension provided with a frusto-conical recess receiving the projection, the extension having an inwardly extended lug movable along the flat surface when the projection enters the recess, and received in the groove, when the sections are rotated with respect to each other, to hold the end of the extension in abutment with the shoulder.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ELIJAH K. lVOLFE.
Witnesses L. F. Hose, J. P. Ynisnn.
