Description

C. HEINEN.
SAW-SETS.
No. 192,991. V Patented July-10,1877.
N. PETERS, PHOTO LITHDGRAPM and upon which is secured UNITEn STATES PATENT Qrrrcn.
CHRISTOPHER HINEN, OF LEAVEN WORTH, KANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-SETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,991, dated July 10, 1877; application filed March 13, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CHRISTOPHER HEINEN, of Leavenworth, in the State of Kansas, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Saw-Sets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication, and in which- Figure 1 is aiperspective view of my improved saw-set. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof, and Fig. 3 is a modified form of the setting-hammer.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters. y This invention relates to a certain improvement in saw-sets; and it consists of a hinged or pivoted leaf, having a detachable slotted support or frame provided with a gage or clamp, in combination with a support having a hammer or .lever and spring, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A refers to a block or other support, which may be rmly fastened to a work-bench or other convenient point, a plate, B, preferably provided with lugs or and to which is pivoted the setting-hammer C, of the ordinary construction.
Fig. 3 shows a modified form of the hammer.
In an orifice, c, in the plate B may be inserted a rubber or elastic plug, c', to spring the hammer or lever after the blow. `Upon the plate B is an adjustable gage or clamp, D,
ears b b, between having a set-screw, d. To the plate B is hinged or pivoted a leaf, E, against the lower side of which bears an adjusting or set screw, F, working in a bar, f, projecting from and secured between the plate B and block A, or otherwise fastened in place.
By means of the hinged or pivoted leaf E and screw F the set of the saw-teeth may be varied.
Gr is a frame, detachably connected to the leaf E, as at g, and having a clamp or gage, H, adjusted thereto by the set or adjusting screw I and clamp-nut t, to vary its adjustment with reference to the gage or clamp D, to adapt them to receive saws ot' varying sizes.
As the use of the extension or slotted frame G is for saws of considerable depth or width, it becomes necessary to detach the said extension or frame in properly adjusting tapering and narrow-bladed saws upon the hinged leaf to beset.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The hinged or pivoted leaf E, having the detachable slotted support or frame G, pro-V vided with the gage or clamp H I, in combination with the support A, having the hammer or lever C and spring c', all constructed and arranged as described, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTOPHER HEINEN.
