Stove-Board.
No. 134,299. Patented Dwz/1f, 1872.
ALONZO D. MOMASTER, OF ROCHESTER, YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVEBGARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. li), dated December 24, 1872.
17o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALONZO D. McMas- TER, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and`valuable Improvement in Stove-Boards and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ot' the same, reterence being had to the annexed drawing making a part ot' this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is arepresentation of a bottom View ot' my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view ot' the same.
This invention has relation to a metallic stove-board, to be placed on the door underneath a stove 5 and the novelty consists in the raising ot' the center of the board by swaging, springing, or otherwise, to provide an airchamber, of a cylindrical form, between the stove and the floor, for the protection of the latter from heat, and bracing the same by means of ties, as hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the drawing, A designates the rim of a zinc or other sheet metal stove-board, which rim lies close to the floor, and receives the legs of the stove. To strengthen said rim and cause it to lie close to the floor a stout wire, a, is applied to the outer edge, and secured in place by folding over these edges upon and around it. B designates the central portion oi' the stove-board, which lies between Lthe stove-legs, and which is raised by swaging or other process so as to provide an air space, O, of a cylindrical form, underneath, for the protection of the door from the effects ot heat. G designates cross-pieces traversf ing the cavity C, and used in large boards to prevent the metal from sagging. These crosspieces may be ot wood or other material, and secured by means ot' a central screw, D, and by having recesses in their ends to receive lugs or studs i formed by attaching drops of solder to the inner surfaces ot' the raised sides or walls ot' the cavity C. This sheet-metal stove platform is spun up in av lathe in a cylindrical shape, and with a raised center and ribs or beads, as shown on the drawing, which ribs add strength and firmness to the board.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The ribbed stove-board A having the raised center B supported by the cross-braces O, provided with recesses to receive the lugs i formed on the inner wall of the raised center, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence ot' two witnesses.
' ALONZO D. MOMASTER.
