IMPROVEMENT IN STEAWI-BOELERS.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent No. hglfigfl. dated December 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKA. HUNTINGTON, ot'San Francisco city and county, State of Cal'- ifornia, have invented Improvements in Steam- Boilers; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawing are sufficient to enable any person skilled. in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvements without further invention or experiment.
The object of my present invention is to provide an improvement in steam-boilers; and it relates mainly to a novel combination and arrangement of double walls and connecting passages with a steam-boiler and tank, as more specifically hereinafter described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing for a more complete explanation of my invention-- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my boiler, showing the space below; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section.
A is a boiler, made in the present instance with two return-fines, B, and having a firespace beneath the boiler. O is the fire-box,
and D the chimney or smokestack, these parts not: differing from other boilers of this class. Double walls are made around the fire-hon and beneath the ash-pit, and these walls are extended along at each side of the boiler and beneath the fire-space, as shown at E, so that this space is completely inclosed. These walls are suitably braced by stay-bolts, and passages F- are made connecting the spaces with the main boiler, as shown. G is a tank for supplying the boiler with water, and is arranged partly over the fire-space so that'the feed-water will be partially heated before passing into the boiler.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The boiler A, fire-box G, waterspace E, passages F, and tank G, all constructed, combined, and arranged, substantially as described and shown, for the purpose set forth.
