Description

. P. ESTES. Improvement in Steam-Boiler Furnaces. No. 131,431. Patented sep.11,1a72.
Way] UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PHILIP ESTES, OF LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM-BOILER FURNACES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,431, dated September 17, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP ESTES, of the city of Leavenworth, in the county of Leavenworth and State of Kansas, have invented an Improved Steam-Boiler Furnace,`of which the following is a specification:
My invention consistsv of an improvement in steam-boiler fronts and furnaces or lireboXes, by which the sides and bridge-Walls Of such fronts, furnaces, or tire-boxes are rendered fire-proof; and an extra quantity of steam y generated with the same quantity -Of fuel.
B is the boiler. B1 is the boiler front.` B2 is the boiler-stand. F F are furnace-doors. S is center piece of boiler front. A A are ashpits. H H are water-spaces, cast in the boiler front, used instead of lire-brick liners for the protection of the same and for generating steam, each connected with the recessed Water-spaces C C C C in the boiler front. C G C C are recessed water-spaces in front and rear of boiler. T T are Water-tubes connecting the water-spaces C C in front with the water-spaces C C in rear of boiler. D is the mud-drum. P P are bridge-wall pipe or tube, connecting and securing the rear water-spaces together,
through which water passes from one to the other, forming a water-bridge wall and generating steam. S S are pipes passing over the boiler and connected therewith, through which the steam generated in the tubes T T and bridge-walls P P passes into the steamchamber of the boiler; and P P are supplypipes connecting the boiler underneath. c c c c are caps bolted Onto the water-spaces G C C G in front and rear of boiler, and can be easily detached for the purpose of cleaning or re Witnesses: A
