Description
C. A. PETERS.
HAT.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 28, 1919.
1 ,342, 132; I Patented June 1, 1920:
' UNITED STATE CAROLINE A. PETERS. or Los ANGELES, CALlfEORNIA.
HAT.
To all whom it may concern;
Be itknown that I, CAROLINE A. Pn'rnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates more particularly to that class of womens head gear commonly known to the trade as sport hats.
An object of my invention is to provide a sport hat construction whose principal members may be readily detached from one another when it is desired to cleanse the same.
A further object of my invention is to provide a novel form of hat construction, in which the several members forming the hat may be detachably secured together, and in which the securing means will be effectually concealed from view when the members are assembled to form a hat.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a sport hat construction that is highly ornamental in configuration, and one that will have all the appearances of a hat of usual form.
I accomplish the above objects by means of the construction described herein, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my complete hat in an assembled condition.
Fig. 2 is a central section through my improved hat in an assembled condition.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the hat brim showing the method of attaching the annular hat band thereto.
Fig. 4: is a perspective view of my hat brim showing the method of suspending the same after laundrying.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the hat crown in an unfolded position.
Fig. 6 is a longitudinal section through a portion of the hat band.
Fig. 7 is a vertical cross section taken on line 7-7 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 8 is an enlarged cross section taken on line 8-8 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 9 is an enlarged cross sectional perspecti-ve view through the hat brim showing its method of construction.
Referring more specifically to the drawings 10 designates a hat formed of washable fabrics, and consisting of a brim 11,

band'12, and a crown piece 13, all adapted to be detachably assembled to form a hat. The hat brim 11 in this'ins'tan'ce consists of an annular member, frusto-conical in coning the brim for drying after a cleansing operation.
The hat band 12, is preferably formed of a single strip of material of the required length and width, the ends adapted to overlap, and being detachably secured together by means of snap fasteners 21, the strip or band being provided with a lining having a plurality of small bones 22 transversely disposed and secured thereto at intervals along the band for the purpose of maintaining said band in a vertical position when attached to the hat brim. The inner face of said band, adjacent the lower edge thereof is provided with a plurality of male snap fastener members adapted to engage the female snap fastener members 18, secured to the outer face of the hat brim 11 as clearly shown in the various figures of the drawing. The outer face of the band 11 adjacent its lower edge is also provided with a plurality of female snap fastener members 23.
The crown piece 13, preferably consists of a circular centrally disposed member 24, which is sewn or otherwise secured to a substantially rectangular member 25, the edges of said member being formed in this instance into a plurality of tabs 26, one for each of its four corners, and the edges of said rectangular member between the corner tabs 26, are formed into shorter or smaller tabs 27, the inside faces of all of said tabs being provided with male snap fastener members 28, which are adapted to engage the female snap members 23 secured to the outer face of the hat band 12. The snap tion may be Varied in configuration, and formed of materials of different textures and colors without departing from the spirit of my invention;
It will be noted from the above description that I have produced a sport hat construction whose Various members may be quickly and easily laundried, andrwh'err as- 1 sembled will present a fresh appearance, the constant laundrying continually enhancing the beauty of xthe material 'ofwhich the hat members are formedle WVh'at I" claim is: s
A hat, construction, comprising an annu lar brim, member formed of louter andiflner strips of a flexible fabric,v a stiffn'ing means interposed between said fabric strips, a hat band member formed of two strips of fabric having a stiifening means-mounted therebetween, its ends being detachably secured to- '39 gether, said hat band member being detachab'ly secured to said brim member, said hat band member adapted to constitute a. form for the hat crown piece, and a fiat flexible fabric crown piecedetachably secured to the g
