Description
UNIT D STATES AIENT Fri-on.
CHARLES H. DAVIS, or SYRACUSE, NEW roan.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE PROP-BLOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 133fi64, dated December 10, 1872. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. DAVIS, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement-in Carriage Prop-Blocks, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to furnish a prop-block for carriages, which shall be in v Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the prop-block made tubular of iron or other suitable metal, with flanges B O at the ends, with an opening entirely through it, and with a longitudinal slot D, between the flanges communicating with the central opening. E is a piece of rubber which is confined in the slot D by the flanges of the rubber, as seen in Fig. 1. f g represent the rubber flanges. H is the arm-piece which passes through-the prop in contact with the rubber E so as to force the rubber upward through the slot. This rubber projects above the surface of the prop and forms a cushion for the bow of the carria ge-top to rest upon, and fills the space lengthwise between the flanges B O. The rubber is inserted from the inside and its flanges are pressed up against the inside of the prop by the arm-piece, as seen. By this arrangement the bow is not worn.
The prop is durable and cannot be broken or get out of place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The rubber E held by arm H up in slot D of a tube-block and having wings f 9 that bear against the under side of said tube, as and for the purpose described.
' CHARLES H. DAVIS.
