Combined Scruber and MopHead'.. 1
No. i"!7,997.
@www A l TAT S VILLIAM H. EARNEST, OF PARKERSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR TO ROBERT P. STEED, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCRUBBER ANDMOP-HEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,997, dated August 15, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. EARNEST, of Parkersburg, in the county of Vood and in the State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Scrubber and Mop-Head; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a combined scrubber and mop-head, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appcrtains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device, and Fig. 2 is an end view of the rubber.
A represents a closed metal cylinder of suitable dimensions, provided on its upper side with a series of holes or apertures, a a, for the admission of water into the same. Along the lower side within the cylinder is a tube, B, with alongitudinal slot through the cylinder, forming an opening into said tube. O is a strip of rubber of the same length as the cylinder A, and of suitable width, so as to be folded in the middle lengthwise and then inserted through the slot into the tube B. The rubber, being contracted at the point where it passes through said slot, expands in the middle within the tube, and is thus held in place. But in case it should be necessary to more firmly secure it, I may pass arod, b, between the two parts thereof within the tube, or a short pin yat each end, which would press the rubber sidewise and completely fill the tube. O11 each side of the tube B in the cylinder is a series of perforations, el d, through which the water is sprinkled upon the surface being' scrubbed. Through the center of the cylinder A, at a proper angle, is inserted a tube, I), as a socket for the handle. E is a bent rod above the cylinder', the ends of which rod are attached to the ends of the cylinder. This rod is for holding the mopcloth. l
Having thus fully described my invention, wh at I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the cylinder A with holes a a under tube B, bent rubber O, handle-tube D, and mop-holding rod E, all as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 17th day of June, 1871.
