Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 20, 1920.
Application filed November 1, 1915. Serial No. 59,115.
2" 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ERNnsro on LEMos, a citizen of Venezuela, residing at 4168 West 23rd st., in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in paper boxes, formed of a blank or blanks of paper or cardboard.
An important object of the invention is to provide a box of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and convenient in use.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which l ke numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box embodying a slightly different form of the invention,
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through the same, and,
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a blank, from which the box is formed.
The numeral 10 designates the blank from which the body portion of the box is formed. This blank comprises a body portion having transverse scores 11, 12 and 13. When the body portion of the blank is folded upon these scores it provides a bottom 14, an outer side 15, an inner side 16, and an upper or false bottom 17 as shown.
The body portion of the blank is also scored upon a line 18, and comprises a side 19. This side is scored upon transverse lines 20 and carries ends 21, as shown. The ends 21 carry flaps 22 foldable upon lines or scores 23, extending transversely of the ends 21. The numeral 24 designates bottom locking flaps, carried by the ends 21 and foldable upon lines or scores 25 extending longitudinally of the ends 21. These bottom locking flaps 24: are adapted for insertion between the bottom 14 and the false bottom 17 and the flaps 22 are adapted for insertion between the inner and outer sides 15 and 16, as clearly indicated in Fig. 1.
When assembling the body portion of the box, the side 19 is first bent upwardly upon the line 18. The bottom locking flaps 24 are .bottom 17 is then arranged bent upwardly upon the lines 25 to assume a horizontal position and by swinging the ends 21 horizontally and inwardly the look ing flaps 24 are disposed upon the bottom 14. The end flaps 22 are folded inwardly upon the lines 23 and extend parallel with the side 19. The blank is next folded upon the line 11 and then upon the lines 12 and 13, whereby the sides 15 and 16 receive therebetween the end flaps 22. The false flat upon the lower bottom 14 and these bottoms receive therebetween the bottom locking flaps The side portion 19 carries a cover portion 19, foldable upon a longitudinal line or score 20. This cover has a tongue 21 adapted for insertion within a slot 22, formed in the side portion 15.
It is to be understood that the forms of my invention herewith shown and described are to be taken as preferred examples of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
An integral blank for forming a box, said blank being provided near and spaced from one end thereof with a score, said score forming one longitudinal edge of a bottom portion and a side portion which is integral with the bottom portion and foldable upon the last named score thereby having a hinge connection with the bottom portion, said blank being provided with three transverse scores near and spaced from the opposite end thereof, the inner score of the three scores forming an outer side portion foldable upon the bottom portion at the last named score and thereby having a hinge connection, the intermediate transverse score providing an inner side member foldable upon the intermediate score and having a hinge connection therewith, the outer transverse score of the three scores providing a false bottom member foldable upon the outer transverse score and having a hinge connection with the inner side memher and adapted to rest upon the bottom member, said blank being provided at the ends of the said pair of transverse scores with end members integral therewith and having scores at their inner ends upon which they are foldable and thereby have a hinge connection with the first named side portion, the end members being transversely scored near and spaced from the ends thereof for providing end flaps, and the end members being longitudinally scored at their lower longitudinal edges providing bottom flaps, adapted for insertion between the bottom member and false bottom member, while the end flaps are adapted for insertion between the inner and outer side members, the bottom flaps of said end members being of the same width as said bottom and extending inwardly from the ends for a considerable distance whereby said end members are unremovably held when said 15 false bottom is in assembled position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
