UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
WILLIAM FERGUSON, OF AMSTEBDAM,NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN RUB-ROLLS FOR CONDENSER-CARDS.
Specification forming partjof Letters Patent No. 1 33,638, dated December 3,1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM FERGUSON, of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rub- Itoller for Garding-Machines; and=do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a perspective view of one of my improved rollers.
A represents the central shaft, with roller B, which is provided with an exterior covering, 0, of sand, emery, orother suitable granulated substance.
The practice heretofore has been to oil and sand-paper the rollers once a day, at least, the object being to secure a rough surface, which is necessary in rubbing some fibers.
By coating with the above materials this rough surface thus obtained is permanent, and Y the result of the same is increased and improved production, as well as a saving in time, labor, and material.
1 This improvement is particularly applicable to mixtures of cotton and wool, coarse wools, or all cotton or woolen cards, and can be applied to all existing carding-machines used for such fibers.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A rub-roller for carding-machines, having a permanent covering of sand, emery, or other suitable granulated substance, substantially as and forthe purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 19th day of August, 1872.
