HANDLE FOR FOUNDRY-FLASKS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT G. DRUMM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Handle for Foundry-Flasks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in handles for rolledor pressed steel foun dry flasks.
The objects of the invention are to provide a handle formed of sheet metal, to form the handle in a minimum of operations from a single sheet and to generally improve and simplify constructions of this character.
I Vith these objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportions, size and minor details of construction may be made within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
The invention thus set forth in general terms is illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a rectangular flask showing the improved handle attached thereto;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank from which one of the handles is formed;
Fig. 3, a plan view of the blank after the first stamping operation;
Fig. 4, a side elevation of the same; Fig. 5, a plan view of the finished handle; and
Fig. 6, is a perspective view of a portion of a rectangular flask showing the type of handle designed for flasks of large size.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a portion of a circular flask showing the handle designed for use upon the circular flasks.
Fig. 8 is a plan view of the blank from which this handle is made; and
Fig. 9 is a side elevation of the handle used upon the circular flask.
A practical embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification in which similar numerals of reference indicate cor- Specification of Letters Patent.

in the attaching portion 4 of the handle I while the metal. at the other end of the blank from which the hand grip is formed is bent upwardly into channel form as shown at 5, this hand grip portion being off-set as shown at6.
With the next operation the tubular hand grip 7 is completely formed and the finished handle as illustrated in Fig. 5 is punched with a plurality of apertures 8 which receive rivets. 9 or their equivalents by means of which the handles are attached to the corners of the corrugated flask 10.
As shown in Fig. 1 the corrugated rib 3 engages one of the spaced corrugations 11 formed upon the blank, thus adding to the rigidity of the connection. The hand grip 7 being off-set from the attaching portion 4 of the handle obviates any obstruction from extending out from the sides of the flask, thus forming a neater and more practical construction.
In Fig, 6 is illustrated a modified form of the handle adapted for use uponlarge flasks, the handle being provided with a plurality of corrugated ribs 12 which engage adjacent corrugations 11 upon the flask. In this construction of handle, the hand grip 7 is formed in the same manner as in the form illustrated. in Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive and is off-set from the attaching portion as shown at 6 the only difference in the construction of the handle being the provision of the plurality of corrugated ribs 12.
In Figs. 7 to 9 inclusive is illustrated an attachment of the handle for use upon curved or circular flasks. This handle is formed from a tapered blank 13 provided with the upper and lower concave and convex edges 14 and 15 respectively, the side edges of the blank being tapered toward the top and provided with the cut-out portions 17 near the bottom. a centrally disposed slot 18 being provided in the bottom edge of the blank, said slot being of the same length as the cut-out portions 17. The lower end of circle 22 adapted to fit over one of the cor rugations 23 upon the curved flask 24. Attaching rivets or their equivalents 25 are provided for connecting the flanges 21 to the flask.
Although the drawings and above specie fication disclose the best mode in Which I have contemplated embodying my invention I desire to be not limited to the'details of such disclosure, for, in the further practical application of my invention, many changes in form and construction may be made, as circumstances require or experience suggests, without departing from the spirit of tl e invention, Within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A flask handle formed from a sheet metal blank having a longitudinal slot (are tending from its lower edge to a point intermediate its ends the portion of the blank above the slot being bent into tubular shape forming a hand grip and the portions upon each side of the slot being bent outwardly in opposite directions to form attaching flanges.
2. A flask handleiorrned from a tapered sheet metal blank having a concaved upper edge and a convex lower edge and a longi tudinal slot extending from the convex edge to a point intermediate the ends of the blank, the portion above the slot being bent into tubular shape forming a frusto-conical hand grip and the portions upon each side of the slot being bent outwardly in opposite directions :lorming attaching flanges.
3, ln combinationwvith a flask provided with a convex rib, a handle "formed -from a sheet metal blank, one end of said blank being bent into tubular shape forming, a hand grip, the other end of the blank forming an attaching portion provided with a concaved portion to receive the rib upon the flask, and means for connecting said handle to the flask.
