Description

- L. DU SSART.
I BRACE FOR SLIDE RAILS; APPLICATION man NOV. 12. m9.
Patented Mar. 9, 1920.
UNITED STA S PATENT r orr ron LOUIS DUSSART, OF KIN CAID, ILLINOIS.
BRACE res SLIDE-RAILS.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, LOUIS DUSSART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kincaid, in the county of Christian and State of Ill1nois,.have invented certain new and useful lmprovements 1n Braces for Slide-Rails,
' of which the following is a specification, refmining progresses until'it is possible to lay full lengths of permanent rails. In view of I the fact that these rails are disposed at the car is supported by the slide rails there is ends of the permanent rails and are intended to be moved at ntervals 11; is not advlsable to permanently secure them, and-as the mine constant danger of the rails spreading and derailiug the car. 7
"It is therefore the object of this invention to provide a brace for slide rails of mines which positively prevents spreading of the rails.
Another object is the provision of a brace, the rail. engaging members of which are formed in one piece conforming to the contour of the slide rail to prevent disengagement of the brace.
Another object is the provision of a brace of this character, the rail engaging members of which are adjusted simultaneously to brace the rails.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement of parts to be herein- 'after more particularly described, fully claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the brace applied to the slide rails.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the brace, applied.
Referring to the drawings A indicates thepermanent end rails of the mine railway and B the slide rails thereof. My improved brace is intended to engage the base flanges of the rails B and consists of a pair of shackles 5, each shackle being constructed to conform to the contour of the base of the rail and is intended to snugly engage the same.
The outer side portions 5' ofeach shackle Specification of Letters Patent.

provided with right hand threads while the shank 7 is provided with left hand threads, the shanks being in alinement. A turnbuckle 8 is provided for connecting the shanks 6 and 7 and includes threaded ends 9 and 10, the end 9 being arranged to receive the threaded shank 6 while the end 10 is arranged to receive the threaded shank 7 the ends 9 and 10 being threaded to correspond to the shank disposed therein.
A partition 11 is disposedcentrally of the turnbuckle and is arranged to prevent contact of the inwardly moving ends of the shanks 6 and 7 with each other. To further secure the brace against accidental disen- When the shackles are in this position, upon rotation of the member 8 the shanks 6 and 7 maybe adjusted to the extent necessary.
From the foregoing it will be readily seen that this invention provides a novel form of brace for slide rails which is capable of being readily applied and removed, is easily adjusted and positively prevents spreading of the slide rails.
' What is claimed is 1. A brace for sliderails of a mine railway comprising a pair of shackles adapted to partially surround the slide rails, and means carried by said shackles for adjusting the same with reference to each other andwith the rails.
2. A brace for slide rails of a mine railway comprisingshackles adapted to encircle the base flange of the slide rail, each shackle including a shank, and means rotatable on said shanks for moving said shackles toward and away fromeach other.
3. A brace for slide rails of a mine railway Extending rearwardly from the comprising a pair of vertically disposed shackles adapted to snugly engage the base flanges of the slide rails, a threaded shank projecting from each shackle in angular relation thereto, and a threaded rotatable member connecting said shanks to move the same toward or from each other upon rotation of said member. v
4:. A brace for slide rails of a mine railway 10 comprising shackles adapted to encircle the base flange of the slide rail, each shackle including a shank, and means rotatable on said shank for moving said shackles toward and away from each other, the outer side of each shackle having faces converging toward and terminating at the side opening therein to provide bumpers.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature.
LOUIS DUSSART.
