SHORE ATTACHMENT Filed Aug. 51, 1926 Ant- INVENTOR lzl ATTORNEYS Patented Mar. 17, 1931 UNITED STATES HENRY W. ROOS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO SHORE ATTACHMENT Application filed August 31, 1926. Serial No. 132,745.
My invention relates to a shore attachment, and has for its purpose to provlde means for quickly attaching a supplemental or extension head to a standard type of adjustable shore.
In a more specific aspect, the purpose of the invention is to afford a simple, efiicient, and inexpensive attachment that can be readily applied to provide a readily attachable extension head on a shore when necessary.
To these and other ends, the invention comprises the construction that will appear clearly from the following description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, the novel features being po nted out in the claims at the end of the speclfication.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a sectional view illustrating the application of my invention to an adjustable shore of well known form;
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing one embodiment of my improvement; Figure 3 is a perspective view of a modlhcation;
Figure 4 is a side elevation of a further modified construction, and
Figure 5 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the brackets employed in the construction of Figure 4.
The invention comprises, in general, a pair of cast or otherwise constructed brackets provided with oppositely extendlng flanges and'adapted to be sultably fixed to a 4 x 4 or other extension head. When neces sary to apply the extension head to a shore, the brackets referred to are engaged with the ends of the permanent head on the shore by a lateral sliding movement. 49 The purpose and general characteristics of the invention may be carrled out in various ways, and in Figure 2 I have 1ll ustrated the simplest embodlment conslst ng of a pair of zigzag brackets, each of whlch r includes a central vertical portion or web 1 and top and bottom flanges 2 and 3 extending in opposite directlons at right angles to said vertical portion. The flange 2 may be secured to the extension head 4 by means of bolts 5 or other attaching instrumentallties,
and when the device is secured to the shore, the flanges 3 engage the ends and underside of the permanent head 6 on the shore, as shown in Figure 1. Nail holes 7 may be provided to receive nails driven therethrough, into the head 6 in order to prevent accidental displacement of the extension head after it is once positioned.
The structure illustrated in Figure 3 differs from Figure'Q in that the two castings or brackets are connected by a bar 9, preferably formed integral therewith, and serving as a stop for the shore head 6 to prevent accidental lateral movement thereof relatively to the extension head. Still another method of accomplishing this end is found in the construction of Figures 4 and 5, in which the brackets are separate and independent from each other, each being formed with an integral wall or stop portion 10 extending laterally at one end of the. bracket, connect ing the bottom flange and vertical portion,
and acting as an abutment against which the shore head contacts when it is pushed into place.
The construction described afl'ords an extremely simple, and eflicicnt device which can be manufactured at a low cost, and lends itself to quick attachment or detachment from a shore. It possesses great practicability, is of light weight, and can be readily transported. i
The invention may be otherwise modified as to its details without departing from the fundamental features, and this application is 35 intended to cover any changes or departures coming within the fundamental purposes of the improvement or the scope of the following claims.
tical portion in opposite directions therefrom for attachment to the extension head and engagement with the shore head respectively,
and a stop portion comprising a lateral wall at right angles to the aforesaid portions, said wall connecting the ends of the central portion and bottom flange and formed integral therewith.
2. The combination with a shore head, of an extension head resting upon and parallel to the shore head, angle pieces aflixed to the under side of the extension head adjacent the ends of the shore head, the angle pieces having portions adapted to abut the ends of the shore head to prevent relative longitudinal motion between the shore head and the extension head, and also having portions underlying the shore head to prevent vertical separation of the shore head and the extension head, and a stop member connected to one angle piece and abutting one side of the shore head.
3. The combination with a shore head and extension head adapted to rest upon the shore head parallel thereto, of zigzag brackets including vertical walls for abutting the ends of said shore head and extending laterally of the extension head and horizontal walls parallel and attached to the underside of the extension head and engageable with the underside of the shore head respectively, said walls affording a guideway extending laterally of the heads whereby the heads are secured together by a relative lateral movement.
4. The combination with a shore head, of an extension head resting upon and parallel to the shore head, zigzag brackets having vertical walls affixed to the underside of the extension head with their vertical walls extending transversely of the extension head whereby the extension head is connected with the shore head by a relative sliding lateral movement between them, the vertical walls of said brackets abutting the ends of the shore head said brackets including additional portions for underlying the shore head, and adapted to be secured thereto, and means carried by the brackets for engaging one side of the shore head and thereby limiting the aforesaid relative sliding lateral movement.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name.
HENRY W. ROOS.
