PASQUALE PASQUAEIELL, OF HAMDEN, CONNECTICUT.
WRENCH.
Application filed November 28, 1919.
To all whom it majz/ concern.'
Be it known `that l, PASQUALE PASQUA.- MELLO, a. subject of the King of Italy, residing at Hamden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wrenches; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in v Figure 1. A face view of a wrench constructed in accordance with my invention, the handle broken away and one end of the operating screw broken away.
Fig. 2. A side view partly in elevation and partly in section .of the same, illustrating the friction rollers.
Fig. 3. A side view also partly in section illustrating means for connecting the plates together and mounting the right and left hand operating screw.
Fig. 4. A transverse central sectional view.
Fig. 5. A perspective view of one of a pair of jaws detached.
Fig. 6. A perspective view of a corresponding jaw detached.
This invention relates to an improvement in wrenches and particularly to the type commonly known as ratchet-wrenches, in that when the handle is moved in one direction, the jaws which grip the work will be moved and when the handle is moved in the opposite direction it will turn independently of the jaws and more particularly to wrenches in which the jaws are operated by right and left hand screws, the object of the invention being to provide a construction in which the jaws may be conveniently operated by a key and to provide spring-friction means by which the jaws may be turned in one direction by the movement of the handle and will remain stationary on the reverse movement of the handle. The invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
1n carrying out my invention I employ a ring-like head 10 formed with a socket 11 to which a handle 12 may be connected. In opposite sides of the head, screws 12 and 13 are mounted and adapted to enter annular gro-ovesl/i in a plate 15 or a groove 16 .in a
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1920.
Serial No. 341,114.
I claim:
1. A. wrench comprising a circular head7 two plates adapted to he connected with the said headl butfree for rotationtherein, said plates connected together with their inner faces separated from each other, springeccentric rollers arranged between said plates and adapted to grip the inner face of the said head, aV right and left hand` screw mounted in each of sa-id plates, said screws formed at one end' with a key socket anda pair of jaws mounted on each of said screws.
2. wrench comprising a ring-like head provided with a handle, two plates connected together but spaced apart, said plates mounted in said head and adapted to turn therein, right and left hand screws mounted in said plates, a pair of jaws mounted on each of said screws, a stud mounted in said plates, an eccentric roller surrounding said studs, and a springA having its ends connected with said stud and with said roller and adapted to turn the rollers outward against the inner face of the head when the head is moved in one direction and rides free thereonwl'ien moved.l in the opposite direction.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification inv the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PASQUALE PASQUARELLO.
