CALVIN HERSOME, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAlTER-BOOTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,225, dated November 19, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALVIN HEEsoME, of Boston, Suffolk county, Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Gaiter-Boots, of
which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of an improved gaiter-boot, constructed of front and back quarters of the configuration shown, and put together in the manner I fully describe, making reference to the accompanying drawin g, which forms partof this specification.
Like letters refer to like parts in the several figures. V
Figure 1, Sheet 1, is a side elevation of a gaiter-boot made in the style and after the manner of my improvement, A being the front quarter, opening upon each side of the shoe at the top of the vamp, about five-eighths of an inch forward of the front of the heel, and ex-- tending back to even with the rear part of the back quarter, or nearly so, cut in a circular form from the front of the top toward the back of the heel, each side nearly inclosing the back quarter, and being there attached by strap and buckle, tie, or their equivalent, the fastening to lie in the hollow of the ankle; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the gaiter with the front quarter turned down so as to expose the back quarter B to view, which is cut in a circular form, extending forward beyond the place of opening in the front quarter about one-half inch, covering the ankle-joint of the wearer; Fig. 3, Sheet 2, is an outline drawing of the pattern of the front quarter; Fig. 4, Sheet/2, is an outline drawing of the pattern of the back quarterthus making, when the front quarter is brought around the ankle and fastened as described, aclose and comfortably-fitting shoe, without the use of elastic, front ties, or buttons, which result could not be accomplished were the relative positions of the front and back quarters changed in any degree; also avoiding a clumsy appearance, and making a shoe which can be put on with remarkable ease by turning down the front quarter, thus making an opening for inserting the foot.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is- A gaiter-boot composed of the front and back quarters, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, constructed in the manner described.
CALVIN HERSOME.
