A? ll M law M1 GEORGE W. SPARKS, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMZL NECKTIE-STRETCHER.
Application filed July 7, 1919.v Serial No. 308,925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon W. SPARKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma. in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Stretchers, of whih the following isa specification.
This invention relates to neck tie stretchers or pressers and has for its object the provision of a device whereby any desired number, within reasonable limits, of neck ties even of the most delicate fabric, may be easily stretched and pressed whereby they may be returned to their normal-condition after use. g
An important object isthe provision of a device of this character which includes a plurality of movable sections and which is so constructed that efficient pressing and stretching action may be exerted upon the neck ties engaged therein upon proper manipulation of the movable parts.
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, which may be quickly and easily used, which may be readily transported when desired, as when traveling. and which will be a general improvement in the art.
lVith the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device with the pressing members shown in extended position.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough,
Fig. 3 is a plan view,
Fig. 4 is afront elevation showing the pressing members in closed position,
Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view therethrough, and
Fig. 6 is a central longitudinal sectional view.
Referringmore particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the main or supporting portion of the device which is formed as a flat slab of material, such as a board and which is preferably faced with a sheet 11 of material such as velvet or the like. Hinged upon the sides of this main portion 10, as shown at 12, are presser members 13 formed in the nature of doors and Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 24, 1920.
hinged upon the upper endof this member 10, as shown at 14, is a top member 15 which carries, by means of suitable brackets 16, a rod 17 over which neckties A are adapted to be disposed. The top member 15 is preferably provided with a hook or eye 18, whereby the entire device may be conveniently suspended when desired. Secured upon the rear side of the main member '10 is .a hook 18 adapted for engagement within an eye 20 secured upon the top of themember 15 whereby the top member may be locked in a position coextensive with the main portion 10.
The sheet of material 11 forming the lining for the main body portion 10 is of the same length as the doors 13 and is extended to cover the inner sides of these doors or presser members.
Extending through the main body portion 10 at its longitudinal axis. is a bolt 21 which extends between the meeting edges of the presser members 13 when they are in closed position, and which is provided with a clamping wing-nut 22.
The operationof the device is as follows The hook 19. being disengaged from the eye 20, the neck ties A to be pressed or stretched, are disposed about the rod 17 and have their end portions brought together and laid upon the main portion 10. The
operator then swings the presser members or doors 13 onto the main body portion 10 and engages the wing nut 22 upon the bolt 21 to prevent displacement of these presser members. He then forces the top member 15 to lie in the same plane with thebody portion 10 and engages the hook 19 within the eye 20. The wing nut 22 is then tightened as firmly as possible against the outer faces of the presser members or doors 13 to Y clamp them firmly upon the neck ties. After an appreciable length of time the ties will be found to have been thoroughly and efficiently stretched and pressed so that they will be reiuvenated with all the wrinkles removed therefrom.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided an extremely simple device which is inexpensive in manufacture and which is so constructed that it will efficiently stretch and press neck ties in order to restore them to their pristine freshness, without any necessity for the employment of hot irons or the like. It will also be observed that the provision of the sheet of velvet or other suitable material lining the body portion and presser doors will prevent injury to neck ties formed even of the most delicate fabrics. It will further be apparent that when desired the device may be folded into comparatively compact form whereby to facilitate transportation or storv While I have shown and described the preferredembodiment of my invention, it is ofc'ours'e to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form,
construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention' or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Y Having thus described my invention, I
1. A device of the character described comprising a flat rectangular body portion, a top member hinged upon the upper edge of the body portion and movable to lie in a plane coextensive therewith, a rod carried b'y' said upper portion spaced from the top surface thereof, means for locking said top portion in, a position coextensive with said body portion, a pair of doors hinged upon the side edges of said body portion and adapted to lie thereupon, and means for holding said doors in clamped relation to said body portion.
2. A device of the character described comprising a flat rectangular body portion, a top member hinged upon the upper edge of the body portionand movableto lie in a plane coextensive therewith, a rod carried by said upper portion spaced from the top surface thereof, means for locking said top portion in a position coextensive with said body portion, a pair of doors hinged upon the side edges of said body portion and adapted to lie thereupon, and means for holding said doors in clamped relation to said body portion, saidmeans comprising a bolt extending through said body portion and disposed between the meeting edges of said doors When said doors are folded upon said body portion, and a Wing nut threaded upon said bolt.
