JOSEPH A. CALDWELL, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA BLANKET FOLDING DEVICE Application filed November 5, 1930. Serial No. 493,635.
This invention relates to improvements in blanket folding devices.
The principal object of this invention is to produce a simple device whereby a blanket may be folded so that the ends and sides thereof, will be even.
A further object is to provide means whereby a blanket may be folded quickly, thus saving considerable time over the or- 1 dinary method of folding blankets which is a tedious operation.
A further object is to produce a device wherein the same may be readily employed in any blanket cleaning works wherein a large folding table is now used.
A further object is to produce a device which is simple in construction and therefore economical to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device, and V Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
In folding blankets, it has been customary 0 for a blanket to be laid upon a table, after which the operator would fold the blanket over and press it several times, until it was in a compact enough bundle to readily handle. This method of folding a blanket is slow and after the blanket was once folded,
it was almost impossible for the housekeeperv '60 ing a top surface 6. This table is supported in any convenientmanner as by the customary legs 7 and 8. Underneath the table I place a pair of brackets, one of which is shown at 9, which brackets are located near the opposite parallel edge of the table and'serveto support a cross-bar 11, which has hooks 12and 13 secured therein: Thesehooks serve to support a removable pole or folding bar 14:, over which the blanket 16 (diagrammatically illustrated in Fig. 1 )is folded. The manner of using my device is as follows 2 v 1 y A blanket is first laid upon the table top 6 as indicated in full and dotted lines in Fig. 2. The folding bar 14 is now. placed upon the blanket and the operator folds the blanket over the bar as shown in Fig. 1, grasping the adjacent corner of the over-lapped portion, and by shaking the blanket, the ends and sides will be drawn even with each other.
By then removing the pole end-wise from the fold in the blanket, the blanket may be then further folded for the purpose of delivery or storage.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the so subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim A blanket folding device comprising a supporting surface upon which a blanket may r jecting to a point above the surface of said support, and a folding rod adapted to overlie'said support and to be engaged by said hooked members, whereby the blanket on said support may be folded there-over.
g In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOSEPH A. CALDWELL.
