Description

SARAH A. BAKE.
Improvement in Corsets.
Patented Nov. 19,1872
In 761d Z" 2' iifzn awed" UNITED STATES SARAH A. DAKE, OF EUREKA, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORSETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,209, dated November 19, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARAH A. DAKE, of Eureka, in the county of Winnebago and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in a ()orset and Shirt Supporter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Fig. 1 of the drawingis a representation of a perspective view of my invention. Figure 2 is a bottom view of the same.
This invention has relation to combined corsets and skirt supporters; and it consists in providing the front of the corset with elastic gores, to adaptit to the form of the wearer.
The novelty consists in the peculiar arrange ment of 'the skirt-supporter wires, as hereinafter described.
As shown in the drawing, the back and sides of the corset are made like a tight-fittin g waist. The back is out about three inches longer than the Waist at the. lower part, to form the skirt-supporter A, which is given the proper shape by gores at a a. In the edge of the skirt-supporter is inserted the wire B. A single piece of Wire is used to stiffen the skirtsupporter, and, for this purpose, is bent to form three continuous semicircular coils. The outer coil, on one side, extends to thefront edge of one corset side, while, on the other side, the inner coil is similarly extended, as shown. The wire is held in place by sewing a strip or binding over it, and by stitching between the coils. The front of the corset is constructed by securing to the edge or eyelet strips E the triangular front pieces F, by their middle points g, which are turned outward, the inner edges of said pieces being straight and suitably stiffened, as are the eyelet-strips. The angular spaces, which are left by this construction, between the pieces F and the eyeletstrips are filled by sewing in the triangular gores D D, made of elastic material, such as strips of rubber braid sewed together horizontally.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y The skirt-supporter A, having the wire 13 arranged in continuous coils and terminating at the front edges of the corset-ends, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
SARAH ALMIRA DAKE. Witnesses:
