EUGENE GEORGE CAMELINAT, OF BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND.
ELECTRIC LAMP.
Application filed March 31, 1919.
To all w hom, t may concern Be it known that I, EUGENE GEORGE CAMELINAT, citizen of France, residing at Birmingham, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to electric lamps for motor-cars, motor-cycles, aircraft and the like or for other purposes, and has for its object to provide improved, simplified and more eilicient mea-ns for securing the front glass or lens and the reflector to the front of the lamp, so as to render the interior of the lamp completely dust-tight, air-tight and water-tight, thereby preserving the surface of the reflector.
According to the invention the glass front is mounted within a sleeve-like housing or carrier ring which is secured to the front of the lamp and which is provided at its inner end with a groove around its interior periphery; and the reflector' is pressed tightly against the glass, or against an interposed packing mediiun, by means of screws or other' clamping devices carried by a split ring adapted to be sprung into the said groove of the housing or carrier ring.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings is a section through a motor-car lamp embodying the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the front of the lamp and reflector removed from the body.
Fig. 3 shows the parts of the sealing means separated.
The glass 11 and reflector 12 are mounted within a carrier ring or sleeve-like housing, 13, made of sheet metal and of cylindrical form, the forward edge having an inturned flange 14 over which the inner edge 15 of the detachable or hinged lamp front S is rolled or closed, forming a shoulder for the abutment of the glass, the latter having a rubber or other soft packing ring 17 of channel section applied to its edge so as to embrace both front land rear faces. The reflector 12 is provided at its front edge with an external flange 18 which is introduced, into the carrier ring 13 so that its front face is applied to the packing ring 17 upon the rear side of the glass front. The inner end of the carrier ring is spun or rolled outward to form a groove or channel 19 around its inner periphery, and into this groove is Specification of Letters Patent.

sprung a split spring ring 20, made of Wire,
and carrying at equidistant points three or other suitable number of inwardly extending lugs 21, each pierced with a screw threaded hole receiving a screw These screws are arranged to bear upon the rear face of the flange 18 of the reflector, so that by tightening them up a close joint can be obtained between the reflector and the front glass, thus effectually sealing the interior of the lamp against damp, water, dust and the like.
The channel ol the carrier ring is provided with a. number of gaps (see Fig. 2) in the rear side to admit of forcing out the split ring by the aid of a suitable implement.
Having fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Lette Patent is tl 1. In an electric lamp for use on motorvehicles and for other purposes, the combination with the lamp front, of a cylindrical housing or retaining ring carried by said front and having yan internal flange and a. circumferential channel, a front glass mounted in said housing in contact with the flange, a reflector having an annular flange also mounted in the housing behind the front glass, said flange bearing upon the front glass, a ring sprung into the channel of the housing, and means carried by said ring and bearing upon the flange of said reflector for pressing` the reflector tightly against the glass front.
2. In an elect-ric lamp for use on motorvehicles and for other purposes, the combination with the lamp front providing an annular channel, of a cylindrical housing or retaining` ring carried by said front and having an internal flange adapted to engage said annular channel and an inner circumferential channel, a. front glass mounted in said housing in contact with the flange. a reflector having an annular flange also mounted in the housing behind the front glass, said flange bearing upon the front glass, and a split ring sprung into the channel of the housing, said ring being provided with lugs carrying screws which bear upon the flange of said reflector.
3. In an electric lamp for use on motorvehicles and for other purposes, the combi nation with a lamp front providing an annular channel, of a cylindrical housing or retaining ring carried by said front and having an internal flange adapted to enga-ge said annular channel and a circumferential channel, a front glass mounted in said housing in contact With the flange, a reflector having an annular flange also mounted in the housing behind the front glass, said flange being adapted to bear upon said front glass, a ring sprung into the channel of the housing, means carried by said ring for pressing the reflector toward the glass front, and packing materia-l between the clampedtogether parts'.
4l. In an electric lamp for use on motor vehicles and for other purposes, the combination With the lamp front, of a cylindrical housing carried Iby said front and having an internal flange at its forward endadapted to bear on said lamp front and a circumferential channel at its rear end, a channel-sectioned packing ring' applied to the edge of the glass front, a reflector having an annular flange mounted in the housing behind the front glass, said flange being adapted to bear upon said packing ring, a ring sprung into the channel of the housing, and means carried by said ring for pressing the flange of said reflector tightly against the packing ring.
lnl testimony whereof I' have hereunto s et my hand in presence of two; subscribing witnesses.
