PACKAGE 0F RAZOR PARTS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Y Patented Feb, 10, 1,920;
Application ined March 27, 191e. serial No. 2s5,437.-
To all whom may concern: v v
Be it known that I, BUTLER AMES, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Lowellv in the county of Middlesex and State'o Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Packages of Razor Parts, of which vthe following is a specication. Y
'This invention relates to packages of razor parts and more particularly to an assemblage of razor parts comprising a box or casing in which is contained the disassembled parts of a magnetic-safety razor, i. e. a razor comprising essentially a magnet and associate parts of paramagnetic material such, for example, as that shown in Reissue Letters Patent of the United States, No. 14,551,'granted to me on November 19, 1918.
As is well known, safety razors are largely used by soldiers, campers,.travelers and other persons who are forced ofv necessity to rigid economy of space in their packs or baggage and who find it dicult and loften impossible to carry articles or packages having sharp corners, or otherwise. of
awkward shape even though such articlesorl packages are relatively small. It is, therefore, a great desideratum that Vthe razor when not in use shall be-'packed in light,
small and very compact compass, and also that the package be without corners which render its lpacking difficult and often impossible, and prevent it from being readily carried in the pocket `of the user when emergency sofrequires. Y
It is the principal objectv of Athis invention to provide for the packageof disassembled razor parts in small, light and very. comlpact compass, 1n such shape as to facilitate packing or carriage on the person under any and all conditions of service. It'is a further object of the invention to provide' in the package as art thereof, a blade package adapted to acilitate the compact pack-` ing of a plurality of blades and to protect their cutting edge or edges until such time as they are successively removed for use.
Referring tol the drawings which lllusy trate an embodiment of my invention,- I
Figure 1 is a sectional view of my 1mproved package of razor parts;
Fig. 2 1s a transverse sectional view of [the package taken 'fonia plane near the top Vvof Fig. 1, the coverV being removed. Y
. Fig. 3 is a perspective view .ofa blade ,n l
holder Fig. 1 said holder Y Fg. 5 is a perspective view of my improved blade package;
Figs. 6, 7 blades;
, Fig. 9 is a plan view of a paper covering for blades -and y A Fig. lOis a perspective view of the complete package of 'razor parts.
A is a box or casing, .preferably ofimetal and provided with a cover A?. Said casing is U-shaped in' cross-section to conformy to the contour vof the U-magnet B, which forms the razor handle, and which is adapted snugly to fit into said 'casing and when iittedtherein is held against lateral movement by ythe wall of said casing;l
Saidv guard member as clearly shownin Fig. 2 overlaps the'legs of the magnet and the cap member D preferably abuts against thewall vofthe, casing. The cap member is made of paramagnetic material and the is a similar view of the cover of:
and 8 are plan views ofrazor ael guard memberniay or may not befpara- -magnetic The parts may beplaced in the casing Aas 'shown'in such a manner that the cap D is also mechanically wedged against the guard C by the wall of the casing and in that case the holding effect of the magnet is exerted only to vprevent endwise slippage `of the parts. i
Disposed upon kthe 'opposite side ofsaid magnet B is an limproved supplyfof blades, preferablyv assembled in. the'y form shown (Figs. .3 to. 5) consisting of, a metal base E (Fig. 3) ofv any suitable paramagnetic material, provided with apair of upwardly extending tenons or blade holders F Vspaced apart, preferably formedv integral withsaid base and folded or turnedover at /fto hold a plurality of blades Gr. Preferably a cover member H (Fig. 4), of the same material as said base, rests upon the uppermost blade of the package andthe free endsv of said holders F overlap the cover member re movably to secure the blades as clearly f' erably, both, so that the tenons F may be shown in Fig. 5. 'The tenons or holders F may be either flexible or resilientgor, pref- 105 Ypermits the blades G to be threaded onto the" It may be an p sprung toward each other to release the cover Hand one ofthe blades; or when the package ofV blades is of lesser number, `'may be bent permanently nearer the base E than the points f. i
It will be observed that the base E and cover F are of greater area than the blades and project beyond them, thus protecting the cutting edge or vedges oi' the blades until they are successivelyy removed from the package :tor service. Y
The particular form'of the aperture which holders F is not material. elongate slot, as shown in Fig. 6, or a pair of spaced openings, as shown in Fig. 7, or
a pair of marginal recesses, as shoiv'n in Fig.
8, or any other suitableV construction. ,If desired, the cover member H may be dispensed with and the holders F turned over upon the topmost blade to secure the package; also, ifV desired, the individual blades may be provided with a aper covering or envelop J' (Fig. 9) provided With apertures K to permit the blades to be threaded onto the holders. Y
The blade package Aor ,holde'i above described and shown iii Fig. 5 is disposed iii the casing A; at the side of the magnet-B as shoivn in Fig. 2. Its base VE and cover F are of suliicient width not to pass freely between the legs .of the magnet B and as said base and cover areof para-magnetic material, Whichever of thesetivo parts happens' to be toward the magnet upon insertion oit the package into the casing, is draivn thereto and held thereby so that the'p'ackage is held against movement inthe casing under all shocks or usuallyr incident to transportation.v l
The package or assembly oit razor parts above described is very small, light andV compact. All partitions or the like within the casing usually employed to separate and hold the various parts against rattling are eliminated, and at the same time, eliecti've provision is made for preventingA any movement of the parts within'tlie casing. Furthermore, the vpackage is Withoutcorneis and thus of a shape which permits it to be readily lpacked under any and all conditions oi. service,y and, it' necessary or desirable, it canbe readily carried in the pocket of the user Without' the slightestv inconvenience. The improved bladeholder" or package is adapted to cooperate Withlthe other parts to form ay compact package,- yand, moreover,
provides efficient ine-ans for storing a relatively large number of blades andv keeping them in condition for service as they are required.
I claim: l. A package of disassembledV razor parts comprising a casing, a magnet in said casing removably held against lateral movement by the Wall'thereof, and par magnetic parts heldv by said magnet.
2. A pa'ckagerof disassembled razor parts ing, said casing confori'ningto the contour or said magnet whereby said magnet is removably held against lateral movement in said casing, and paramagnctic parts disposed at the side of said magnet and held thereby. n
' il. ik package of disassembled razor parts comprising a casing, a magnet in said casing ien'iovz'ibly held against lateral movcment by the ivaell thereof, and a blade package disposed at thel side of said magnet Within said casing' and held thereby.
5. A package of disassembled razor parts 'comprising a casiiig,- a magnet in saidv casii'ig removably held against lateral' movement by the" 'ivall thereof, and a 'blade packdisposed at the side oit said magnet and lheld thereby, said blade package comprising a base having a pair of spaced blade holders, 'said holders adapted' to be passed through any apert'ured razor blade and thereafter to `be turned over removably to hold said blade.Y
G. A? package of disassembled razor partscomp'iising a casing, a U-inagn'et in said casing, said casing conforming to. the contour vcap littedltogetlier disposed on the opposite side votsai d mz'iginet, said guard abutting against saidmagnet and saidv cap abutting against the Wall of said casing.
