Description

Dec. 19, 1967 SJ. JOHNSON 3,358,819
CONTAINER FOR A CORSAGE Filed Sept. 12, 1966 ,INVENTOR. 10 fiewet-za J dams /v United States Patent v 3,358,819 CONTAINER FOR A CORSAGE Sigfred J. Johnson, Forest Park, Ill. (P.0. Box 216, Lombard, Ill. 60143) Filed Sept. 12, 1966, Ser. No. 578,594 2 Claims. (Cl. zoo-45.14
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A container including a substantially flat base tray provided with a raised peripheral flange formed inwardly from the outer edges of the base so as to define an article receiving area. A hollow open bottom transparent cover frictionally positioned about the raised peripheral flange and having a substantially flat top thereof above and in spaced relation to the article receiving area of the base tray. A second open bottom rectangularly shaped protective cover of a size to receive the transparent cover to protect the same. The base tray has formed therein parallelly extending slots through which is projected from the under side of the base tray an article holding element which is also utilized to removably connect the transparent cover on to the base tray.
Disclosure of the invention The object of my invention is to provide in a device of this character a container including a base upon which may be secured a corsage or the like, a transparent cover for the base member which is removably attached thereto by the flower-retaining member, as well as an opaque cover for the transparent cover and tray so that the same may be conveniently shipped or carried.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the improved corsage container showing the base tray and transparent cover in an exploded relation;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the corsage container showing the transparent cover mounted on the base tray as well as the opaque cover in an exploded relation; and
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary detailed perspective View of a modified form of an article-holding member carried by the base tray of the container.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown in FIG. 1, a container having a base tray formed of a plastic or other suitable material. The base tray 10 is provided with a raised peripheral flange 11 which is positioned inwardly of the outer edge of the base tnay 10. The one edge of the base tray 10 is provided with a pull tab 12 utilized to facilitate the removal of the covers therefrom, as hereinafter explained.
The raised peripheral flange 11 defines an articlereceiving area 13. This area 13 adjacent one end of the base tray 10 has formed therein parallel spaced apart slots 14 and 15, which slots 14 and 15 are not only parallel but are in alignment relative to each other and to the side edges of the base tray 10.
3,358,819 Patented Dec. 19, 1967 A transparent cover 16, of a size to be positioned about said raised peripheral flange as seen in FIG. 2, is adapted to sit within the confines of the edges of the base tray 10.
An article-holding element, such as a ribbon 17, is adapted to be threaded through the slots 14 and 15 so that a medial portion thereof lies within the articlereceiving area 13 of the base tray 10 (FIG. 2). The articleholding element is of a sufficient length to pass about the opposite edges of the base tray 10 and over the transparent cover 16, so that it may be tied in a fanciful bow 19' or the like, to secure the cover to the base tray 10.
As viewed in FIG. 2, when the cut flower or corsage is placed within the article-receiving area 13 provided by the base tray 10, the stem S thereof may be inserted between the medial portion 18 of the ribbon and the face of the base tray 10, so as to be secured in place within the article-receiving area 13 and the transparent cover 16. The stem S when inserted beneath the medial portion 18 of the ribbon may, if desired, be stapled thereto or fastened by any suitable fastening means so as to removably connect the stem thereto.
An opaque cover 19, formed of cardboard or such other suitable material, is of a size to be positioned over the transparent cover 16 and about the outer edges of the base tray 10. This opaque cover 19 facilitates the shipping or carrying of the cut flower or corsage.
As viewed in FIG. 3, I show a modified article-holding element which includes a metal clamp 20 which may be either carried by the ribbon 17 or fastened to the base tray 10. This metal clamp 20 provides a pair of bendable arms 21 and 22 which, as shown in FIG. 3, may be bent about the stern S of the corsage or cut flower, to hold the same in place in the article-receiving area 13 of the container.
The opaque protective cover 19 is readily removable from the base tray 10 as well as the transparent cover 16 because of its size and construction. However, the transparent cover 16 snugly fits around the extremities of the peripheral flange 11 of the tray 10 so that to facilitate its removal after the how 19' has been untied, I have provided the base tray 10 with a pull tab 12 which permits the separation of the base tray 10 from the transparent cover 16 without distribution or destruction of the cover 16.
While I have described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A container for a floral piece and the like comprising:
(a) a rectangularly shaped substantially flat base tray having a raised peripheral flange inwardly from the outer edges of the base tray defining an article receiving area,
(b) slots formed in said base tray within said articlereceiving area adjacent one end thereof, and extending parallel to the elongated sides of the rectangularly shaped base tray through which an articleholding element is adapted to be projected,
(c) an article-holding element projectable from the under side of the base tray through said slots engaging an article within said article-receiving area to removably secure the same on to said base tray,
(d) a removable hollow open bottom transparent cover frictionally positioned about said raised peripheral flange providing a substantial fiat top above and in spaced relation to said article-receiving area of said base tray,
(e) said article holding element having portions of a length to embrace said substantial fiat top of said transparent cover to secure the same on said base tray, and
(f) a hollow open bottom rectangularly shaped protective cover of a size to be positioned upon said transparent cover to protect the same.
2. A container for a floral piece and the like as defined by claim 1 wherein said means provided by said articleholding element comprises a clamp-like member which is bendable into clamping relation with respect to an article within said container for releasably securing the same in a predetermined position therein.
