CHARLES H. WEAVER, or
PATENT enrich.
HOT SPRINGS, ARKANSAS.
PAPETERIE-DISPLAY BOX.
No. 910,753. Specification of Application filed May 6, 1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. WEAVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hot Springs, in the county of Garland and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Papeterie-Display Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to new and useful improvements in papeterie display boxes, and has for its object to provide such a box as will be commercially cheap, and which will be adapted to display the contents of said box to the greatest possible advantage.
It has been agreat source of annoyance and inconvenience to stationers, to have customers desiring to buy writing material, to make a habit of fingerin the same, which results in leaving glove and finger marks on the contents of the box, or breaking the bands holding together packages of envelops or writing paper.
With the use of my devlce it is unnecessary to remove the contents of the box of writing material in order that the same may be examined, thus protecting the contents thereof from dust and stains. Furthermore, my device saves delay in making a selection by a customer, and enables an employee to replace the stock on a shelf or in a show case in the least possible time.
The experienced retail merchant will readily appreciate the many advantages possessed by this simple inexpensive innovation.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as are hereinafter described in the following specification and particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
Reference being had to the drawings: Figure 1, is a perspective view of my display box with the 11d thereon. Fig. 2, is a similar view, partly in section, with the lid removed. Fig. 3, is a perspective view, of my box partly in section, the display cover partly swung back, showing the contents of the same. Fig. 4, is a fractional top plan view of the display cover, showing the manner of fastening an envelop or sheet of paper thereto. Fig. 5, is a detail, sectional view of the display cover on the line 55 of Fig. 4. Fig. 6, is a top plan view of a portion of the cover showing a modified form of fastening means employed in securing an envelop or sheet of paper to said display cover. Fig. 7, is a detail sectional view of said display cover on Letters Patent.
908. Serial No. 431,115.
Patented Jan. 26, 1909.
the line 77 of the Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is a top plan View of my device, lid of box being re moved, showingthat it is not necessary to secure the display cover to one of the side walls of the box. Fig. 9 is a vertical sectional view, disclosing the feature of the above figure more fully. Fig. 10 is a per spective view of the display lid, removed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings:The box 1, which is similar to the ordinary box used for this purpose, has fitting snugly thereon the lid 2. The display cover 3, is hinged by any suitable means 4, to the upper edge 5, of one of the side walls 6, of said box 6.
A sheet of paper and envelop, designated by the numerals 7 and 8 respectively, are secured to the free edge 9, of said display cover, by means of clips 10, which are secured to the display cover by rivets or other suitable means, said cli s having the outer resilient members 10. -t is pointed out that a sheet of aper or envelop may be readily slipped un er said clip, and removed therefrom, at will, without mutilating the same. If it is desired to permanently secure said envelop or paper on display, to said display cover, the form of fastening means may be employed as is illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7 thus reventing the disarrangement of said artic es on dislay. Thus by the use of my invention the contents of the box remains untouched and necessarily no damage is done thereto. I may claim the right to attach said display cover to a piece of card board of substantial thickness as will be adapted to be slipped between one of the side walls of the box and the packages of envelops and paper in said box, instead of attaching the same directly to one of the side walls. Thus by this arrangement said cover may be easily removed and used again when that box containing the same is sold.
I will now proceed to more fully describe the feature of my invention brought forth in the above paragraph, and illustrated in Figs. 8, 9 and 10 of the drawings. The display cover 3, has connected to it by means of the hinge 4, a strip of card-board 11, or other suitable material adapted for the purpose. This said strip 11, is adapted to be slipped between one of the side walls 6, of said box and the package of envelops and paper contained therein. (See Fig.9.) This arrangement may, if preferred, be employed instead of securing said display cover to the box as illustrated in the first sheet of drawing.
Thus, one display cover, by the latter arrangement, may be used over again and again, repeatedly.
'lhough I have specifically described my invention I may claim the right to make such alterations and modifications therein, as will not depart from the spirit of my claims, and as will fall within the scope of my invention, minor details of arrangement and proportion being a secondary consideration only.
having described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to claim by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a papeterie display box, the combination of a box having a lid fitting snugly thereon, an inside display cover hinged to a strip of card-board, said strip adapted to fit between one of the side walls of said box and the contents thereof, adapting said cover to be readily removed, means to secure an envelop or sheet of paper to said display cover, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a papeterie display box of the. character described, the combination of a box having a lid adapted to fit thereon, said lid being disconnected from said box, an inside display cover, means to hinge said cover to the edge of one of the walls of said box, a pltrality of means to permanently secure a sheet of paper or envelop to the outer surface ofsaid display cover, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a common stationery box the combination of an extra lid, a strip of desirable material hinged to said lid, said strip adapted to fit between one of the said walls of said box and thecontents thereof, said lid being for display purposes, means to secure a sheet of paper or envelop to the outer surface of said lid, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
4. In a device of the character described the combination of a box having a separable lid fitting snugly thereon, an inside display cover hinged to the edge of one of the walls of said box, a plurality of means to secure an envelop or sheet of paper to the outer surface of said lid whereby said paper or envelop may be readily removedcfor inspection without mutilating the same, substantially as shown and described.
5. In a device of the character described the combination of a box having a separable lid adapted tofit thereon, an inside display cover hinged to the edge of one of the walls of said box, means to secure an envelop or sheet of paper to the outer surface of said lid whereby said paper or envelop may be readily removed. for inspection without mutilating thesame, said means consisting of a plurality of spring-clips having one of their ends riveted to the under part of the free edge of the display cover, said clip-shaving outer resilient'members, adapted and for the purpose of engaging the edges of, the envelo s and paper, substantially as shown and cescribed.
In testimony whereof I hereby affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
