WINDOW SILENCER.
APPLICATION. f-ILED MAY 24. ms.

WINDOW-SILENCER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1920.
Application filed May 24, 1918.- Serial No. 236,380.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. SZEPE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in'the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania have invented new and useful Improvements in Window- Silencers, of which the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to an attachment for windows whereas the window will be prevented from rattling and has for its primary objectto provide a device of simple construction which may be manufactured in large quantities at a relatively low cost.
An object of the invention is to provide a window sllencer that may be stamped from sheet materlal thus reducing the cost thereof.
Besides the above my invention is distinguished in the manner of forming the rib so as to accomplish a wedging action between the window and the frame by the gravitational action of the device.
Viththese and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 illustrates a portion of a window showing my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of one of the devices.
Fig. 3 is an edge view thereof.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view.
As clearly shown in Fig. 2 each device is stamped from sheet material of uniform thickness of semi-disk shape with an open ing 1 arranged adjacent the straight edge 2. .Thus it will be seen that the major portion of the plate is arranged to one side of the pivotal screw 3 that passes through the opening 1 with a result that the plate at all times tends to move to a position Where the straight edge 2 is horizontally disposed. The advantages of this action will be better set forth later. 7
In stamping the device the finger grip A is bent at right angles to the plate and a tapering rib 5 is formed concentrically of the opening 1.. As clearly shown in Fig. 4:'
this rib is of an arcuate shape in cross sectionfor allowing the same to be readily stamped by a stamping machine and further insuring a good grip between the rib and the Window frame. At this point I wish the same upon the window frame as illustratedin Fig. 1, it will be seen that when the devices are once forced to applied position between the window and its frame the same will be prevented from working loose owing to the fact that the gravitational action of the plate will always move the rib 5 in a direction to increase the binding action between the window and its frame.
An important feature of my invention is the construction of the device and its cooperation with the Window and frame whereby the binding action between the frame and window will be increased to a degree to prevent raising of the window should a person endeavor to raise the latter when the device is in opposite position.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it should be apparent that I provide a device of simple substantial construction which may be manufactured at a relatively low cost and which is of a shape to automatically move to a position to prevent rattling I of the window.
Having described my invention, what I claim is: o
A device adapted to be pivotally secured the sash rail'and' a window frame, formed from a piece of sheet metal of substantial semi-circular outline provided with a pivot receiving opening positioned substantially centrally of its straight edge, said piece of sheet metal being further provided with an outwardly projecting integral rib of concavo-convex cross section concentric with said opening and taperin in height toward 'to a Window sash so as to engage between
