Description
A.- QuiRoLo. Improvement in Stereoscopes.
Patented Nov. 12', 18712.
ANTONIO QUIROLO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
iNIPROVEMENT IN STEREOSCOPES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 32,9l, dated November 12, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONIO QUIROLO, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Stereoscope Handle and Stand, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a sectional side View of my invention, showing the handle and stand combined; Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, showing the handle only; Fig. 3 is a detail front view of the handle; and Fig. et a top view of the button holding the handle.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention relates to stereoscopes; and consists in an improvement thereon, as hereinafter fully described and clearly pointed out in the claim.
A in the drawing is the bottom plate of a stereoscope of suitable construction. To its under side is fastened, by three screws, nails, or tacks, a af, a button or cup, B. C is the handle, provided with a projecting circular or semieireular ear, b, which enters an aperture in the under side of the cup B, and is there pivoted by a pin, d, so that the handle can be turned or folded up against the under side of the bottom A, as in Fig. 2, or suspended at right angles therefrom, as in Fig. l. A spring e, which is concealed within the cup B, bears against the edge ofthe ear b, and applies therequisite friction for holding the handle iu either of the two positions. I prefer to make the spring e with a projecting lug, j", which enters a groove in the edge of the ear b, and thereby serves still more to hold the handle steady. The handle is made with a socket, g, in its end. D is .the standard en which the instrument is to be supported when not to be held in hand but used standing. On the upper end of this standard is secured a split pin, h, or spring-jaw, which, when inserted within the socket g, connects standard and handle, as shown in Fig. 1. The instrument is thus supported in the desired manner without requiring the handle to be detached,
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A jointed handle, O, permanently attached to the instrument and made attachable to a fixed. standard, D, substantially as described.
