Be it known that I, HENRY BAUsCH, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mouth and Throat Mirrors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, and to the reference-numerals.

My present invention has for its object to provide an improved mouth or throat mirror or instrument particularly adapted for the use of dentists and surgeons and which shall be readily adjustable and capable of being secured in convenient position for use; and to these ends it consists in certain improvements in construction and combinations of parts,all as willbe hereinafter fully described, and the novel features pointed out in the claims at the end of this specification.

In carrying out my invention I provide a mirror-frame consisting of a ring l, split at one side and provided with the perforated ears 2, which when together constitute a hinge member and are adapted to pass between the ears 3, formed on the end of the handle 4, a suitable securing and pivot screw 5 passing through all said ears and connecting the parts. The ring-frame is provided on both sides with the undercut edges to securely hold in place the circular mirrors 6 and 7, the former being preferably concave and the latter plain, the reflecting-faces of said mirrors of course extendingoutward. The mirrors may be inserted or removed by removing the pivotscrew and separating the ends of the split ring, and Vfor the purpose of separating the mirrors I prefer to provide the ring with the internal rib or bead 12, as shown.

From this construction it will be seen that the frame can be turned on the hinge or pivot 5o to present either of the mirrors at any desired angle relative to the handle which will enable the user to work to the best advantage, and for the purpose of securing the mirror in adjusted position I provide a screw 8, eX- tending longitudinally through the handle, threaded in the shank 9 of the latter, and having an operating-head l0 atthe outer end, said screw being adapted when moved in to engage the hinge member of the frame and 6o clamp the parts firmly.

This construction is simple and cheap and besides permitting various adjustments to be had enables the mirrors to be readily replaced, if broken, or different ones to be substituted.

I claim as my inventionl. The combination with the mirror-frame and the mirror held therein, of the handle hinged to the frame to permit the movement of the latter in a single plane only, and the clamping-screw on the handle, independent of the hinge connection with the frame and arranged to engage the ring-frame and lock it in adjusted position on its pivot.
